Freedom From Meth - Saturday, October 2nd.
Fresno Feed My Sheep Ministries Inc. is sponsoring a Freedom From Meth Parade, Car Show, and Carnival in the Tower District on Saturday, October 2nd. Other sponsors include Bringing Broken Neighborhoods Back To Life and the Embassy Ministry Center. The event is also supported by the city of Fresno, the Fresno County Sheriff, and the Fresno Police Department. The almost two mile march will begin at 10:00 am and include a full day of activities for everyone in the family. Feed My Sheep Ministries has stated, "We would like people of Fresno to come out and join us in taking a stand against meth-amphetamines." Pastor Bruce Hood is the ministry founder.
A City Wide Rally
Methamphetamine is linked to the majority of crimes in the Valley. Fresno police say meth addicts are to blame for half of the city's burglaries, 65 percent of identity theft crimes, and 95 percent of auto thefts.
On Saturday, October 2nd hundreds take to the streets of Fresno to fight one of the most addictive and destructive drugs plaguing the Valley.
Sotisaac Granados, Christian rapper, says, "When you're hooked on meth, it's a blank face, not carrying about nothing, it's like his mind is empty."

Freedom From Meth Event Details
The event will be located in Fresno's Tower District. There will be a "Freedom From Meth Parade, Car Show & Bike Run" starting at Olive & Van Ness. Parade participants meet at 9am. Parade begins at 10am and marches down Olive Avenue to Palm and turns south. It ends at 826 Palm Ave. Fresno, CA 93728 (Embassy Ministries International). This event will include a Parade, Car Show, Bike Run, Free Bicycle Repair, Food, "Kid's Zone", Face Painting, Bounce House, Carnival Games, Pony Rides, Live Music, Raffles, and Live Drama on the Dangers of Meth. Many participants will be former addicts, who want others to know there is life after meth. One mother of seven says her alcohol addiction led her to meth, and ultimately her life going into a downward spiral. Sabrina Vasquez, recovering addict, says, "It pretty much tore it apart. I lost everything. House, home, kids, and I regret it, but today I'm getting back on my feet and my family back together."The big methamphetamine lie results in decreased interest in other aspects of life, as an individual increases their reliance and interest in methamphetamine. People, places and activities involved with using methamphetamine become MORE IMPORTANT. People, places and activities or lifestyles before using methamphetamine, become LESS important. In fact, after awhile, a heavy methamphetamine user will actually RESENT people, places and activities not able to fit in with methamphetamine use.
In certain studies, animals would press levers to release methamphetamine into their blood stream, no longer concerned about eating, mating or other natural drives. They will, in fact, die of starvation in the process of giving themselves methamphetamine even though food is available.
Both City And Community Support
Fresno County's sheriff and Fresno's police chief rallied to stop the growing problem. Sheriff Margaret Mims says, "I see it everyday. Our jail population, especially our women, is growing faster than any other population and it' s due to meth, that's the major cause."Chief Dyer says he believes the number one long term solution is faith-based recovery programs. Jerry Dyer, Fresno Police Chief, says, "When people get introduced to Jesus Christ, and they have that personal relationship with Christ, things begin to change in their life, just like they have in my life."
Something that helped Sabrina and others start a new chapter. Sabrina Vasquez, recovering addict, says, "Whenever I felt that pain, I'd have to get high to take the pain away. But today, I like the way I feel, I like the new me that I am."
