Throw me something, Mister!
Those attending a Mardi Gras parade will want to catch some of the "throws" from the parade floats. This tradition started in the 1870s and continues to this day with the tossing of beads, trinkets, and stuffed animals.

Something for the little ones
Kid-safe Mardi Gras fun
If you have children, keep them out of the French Quarter during the parade times. It's just not safe for the little ones. Try the Garden District for a family area, or some of the smaller parades in the near suburbs.
