Marimba Music

I was trying to remember the first time I saw a Marimba. It must have been when I was a kid growing up in California. We had a lot of Latin music in our town and I'm guessing there was a concert at a festival that first introduced me to the sound of the marimba, South American style. The next time I remember being wowed by a Marimba was at a community concert that featured a marimba soloist. Wow! He was stupendous and I was blown away by the wonderful classical music he played. He was exhausted by the time he finished his piece.
Last month, I attended a college concert to see a couple of my children play, and on the program was a "Percussion Ensemble". Not being as musically educated as I should be, I was expected the stage to be filled with drums. Instead, six wonderful marimba players delighted the audience with an arrangement of Beethoven's Ode to Joy. It was so wonderful that it left me wanting more. So I thought I would find out a little about the marimba, and share that info with others.
