A Place to Share Your Hearts and Prayers
As a mom you know it's hard enough to watch your children grow up and leave home. We have tried to protect them and keep them safe since before they were born. Now they are young men, or women who have decided that their path is the Marines. Releasing them and seeing them willingly place themselves in harms way brings a mixture of pride and concern.
Kevin had just begun his first year of college when 9/11 changed his direction in life and he decided that God had place a calling to join the Marines in his heart.
Kevin was in Iraq during 2007, and we thank God for his safe return home. He is know stationed at Qauntico, just a few hours away from home. He and his wife have been blessed with a new little girl, Karaline.
While he was in Iraq the Lord gave me a prayer from the Psalms that I send almost daily (see below).

The Marine' s Prayer
Regardless of the situation, the Marine Corps has an answer for almost everything.
For U.S. Marines of any faith who may desire guidance when contacting their Maker, the Marine Corps has a ready aid, The Marine's Prayer:
Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family.
Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my Country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold.
If I am inclined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again.
Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer.

What are you up to while your son or daughter is away?
It's important to remember to take care of ourselves. What do you do to keep yourself busy and to keep yourself motivated and in a positive frame of mind?
While Kevin was away . . .
How to stay positive and motivated
While Kevin was away I decided I wanted to do something positive for others. My oldest daughter died from Leukemia and I was pregnant with Kevin when she died, and can you believe the day he shipped out I joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma's Hike for Discovery program (God's timing is always remarkable). I spent the next 3 1/2 months hiking with a group from Eastern Pennsylvania and raising money. We ended up at the Grand Canyon. I was the only grandmother in the group and almost the oldest member of the group.I had a great time and met some really wonderful people. We hiked from February - May, and as I hiked, with one of Kevin's backpacks, and lagged behind the majority of the group and would have like to sit down and rest I thought of Kevin in Iraq. There he was in the heat with all his gear and equipment I really couldn't complain and it motivated me to keep going.
