Marion Davies - Party Girl and Philanthropist
Ziefeld Follies Chorus Girl - Marion Davies
Tlhe youngest of five siblings, Marion watched in awe as her sisters danced their way to success as chorus girls on Broadway! She soon followed their lead, happily dancing with the famous Ziegfeld Follies before she happened to meet the man who would change her life forever - William Randolph Hearst. Davies is best remembered for her relationship with newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst
Constant companion and lover!
The beautiful dancing blonde made her first encounter with Hearst came while acting in the "Ziegfeld Follies." Shortly after meeting the much older man she became his constant companion and lover. Hearst was so smitten he set up Cosmopolitan Productions to showcase what he thought was her amazing talent, shunning her natural gift for comedy and forcing her into formal, period pieces. Despite her movie's mixed reviews, Marion partied like she was the Queen of Hollywood. An invitation to one of Marion Davies parties at the "Beach House" was coveted by everyone in the movie business, even if they privately made fun of her performances on screen. Classic Marion Davies

Marion Davies' movie career was at its peak in the 1920s, more famously known as The Roaring Twenties. Dance clubs became enormously popular in the 1920s and the term "flapper" was used to describe young American women who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, and listened to jazz. That's not all! These fun females, like Marion Davies, were seen as brash for wearing excessive makeup, drinking, smoking, driving cars and having casual sex!
Marion Saves the Day
In the late 1930s, Hearst had a major financial meltdown. He was forced to auction off his favorite fancy stuff (warehouses of priceless antiquities) collected over an entire lifetime. When it still wasn't enough, Marion Davies sold $1 million of her beautiful diamond jewelry and wrote a check to her cash-strapped lover to keep him afloat. Does that sound like something a ditzy blonde would do? Hauntingly beautiful Marion Davies!
