Gold is the new black
The statuesque Nicole Kidman plays Marisa Coulter in the movie version of Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass. Mrs Coulter wears two beautiful gold dresses in this movie - one to the Oxford dinner, and another in her home just before Lyra runs away.
My prediction is that gold will be hot for prom dresses, end of year/new year functions, and even for weddings.

Although Nicole Kidman plays Marisa Coulter with a soft saccharinity, she is still able to give her a delightful villainous edge. The character of Marisa Coulter is still one-dimensional, but she's not that important in this movie anyway. Although I was a little disappointed with her performance, I enjoyed watching Nicole Kidman despite the lack of material she had to work with here.But let's talk about the important stuff - the gorgeous dresses Nicole is wearing in The Golden Compass.
The costumes for The Golden Compass have been designed by Ruth Myers who was the costume designer for movies like Iris, LA Confidential, Emma, and the TV drama Carnivàle. Ruth has been designing for film since 1967.
Ruth had this to say to The Envelope about Mrs Coulter's costumes: "Mrs. Coulter... is very contained in her costumes. And when she befriends Lyra, she tries to be soft but it doesn't work. In one scene when Lyra realizes she's evil, Nicole's dress is a mauve silk with a bit of lace but there's still a cold sheen about her."

Gold works well for a wide range of skin tones.
However, do check that the particular gold tone you are choosing doesn't make your complexion look sallow. You can check this by holding up an item of clothing of a colour that you often receive compliments on when you wear it (ie, it really suits your skin tone).Now hold up the gold fabric to your face and then compare by holding the fabrics on either side of your face. It should be quite noticeable if the gold doesn't suit you - but ask a shop assistant to help you if you're not sure.
There are a wide range of golden tones, from very pale, almost silvery gold, to golds with blue and pink tones, to bright, brassy, yellowy golds. Don't give up on gold before you've tried a few different tones.
Even though Nicole is tall and slim, the combination of flowing A-line gold skirt and a longish lacy gold sweater or floaty cardigan can really suit a wide range of figures and be made to cover all sorts of flaws. But don't forget to show off your assets, whether it be sexy curves or a svelte figure.
