Mark Twain Biography
The life of Samuel Langhorne Clemens alias Mark Twain
Mark Twain was born into a large family, he was the sixth of seven children. (Birthdate: November 30, 1835). His family lived in Florida, Missoury, USA. Of the seven children only Mark Twain and two others survived, the others died before growing up to be adults... these were hard times!
At the age of four, Mark Twain and his family moved to Hannibal, a port town on the Mississippi river. Hannibal later was the town that he described in his books as St. Petersburg in 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' and 'Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'.
In 1851, he began working as a typesetter and writer for the Hannibal Journal, a newspaper owned by his brother, Orion. When he was 18, he left Hannibal and worked as a printer in various towns. At 22, Mark Twain returned to Missouri. On a voyage to New Orleans down the Mississippi, the steamboat pilot, "Bixby", inspired Clemens to pursue a career as a steamboat pilot. He studied 2,000 miles of the Mississippi for more than two years before he received his steamboat pilot license in 1859.
Mark Twain continued to work on the river and served as a river pilot until the American Civil War broke out in 1861 and traffic along the Mississippi was curtailed.
Initially Mark Twain wrote mostly humourous reports about his travles for various large newspapers. In 1876 he published 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' and in 1884 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' were published.

Huckleberry Finn And His Friends
The intro to 'Huckleberry Finn And His Friends' the classic Canadian / German television series starring Ian Tracey and Sammy Snyders from 1979. I grew up in Australia during the 1980's and watched this series whenever it was shown. It was re-run many times on various networks around the world until the early 1990s when it looked like we would never see it again. It took me years to find anything about the series and then in around 1998 I was able to contact another fan of the series who had recorded 17 or 18 episodes during the shows TV run. Finally in 2005 the series was released as a 3 DVD box set by Fabulous Films in the UK by and is available from Amazon.co.uk

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain Audio Books
First published in 1885, 'Huckleberry Finn' is one of the undoubted masterpieces of American literature. This is what Ernest Hemingway said about this classic:"It's the best book we've had. All American writing comes from that. There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since." - Ernest Hemingway
'Cordially hated and dreaded by all the mothers of the town because he was idle, and lawless, vulgar, and bad - and because all their children admired him so', Huckleberry Finn, the fourteen-year-old son of the town drunkard, joins runaway slave Jim on an exciting journey down the mighty Mississippi River on a raft.
Huck Finn is a homeless rebel who loves freedom more than respectability. He isn't above lying and stealing, but he faces a battle with his conscience when he meets up with a runaway slave named Jim, who provides him with his first experience of love, acceptance, and a sense of responsibility.
Huckleberry Finn tells his own story in a straightforward narrative laced with shrewd, sharp comments on human nature. The boy's adventures along the Mississippi River form the framework of a series of moral lessons, revelations of a corrupt society, and contrasts of innocence and hypocrisy.
