Marketing Management
Marketing Management: About the Field
Marketing requires a mind geared toward that of the customer: what do they want and/or need? What would interest them? How can I reach them? And importantly, how can I keep them coming back? It is a Marketing Manager's responsibility to find the answers to these questions, while managing the process from concept to finish.Sales is closely inter-twined with marketing, as the two fields can co-exist to fulfill the promotions/point of sale aspect of a business. Advertising is used to promote a product, service, or the company itself; and management is vital to hold the internal workings of the company together throughout the entire process as a whole.
As a marketer, one must be savvy with today's tactics - especially that of the highly lucrative internet, and it's surprisingly boundless amount of opportunity. Popular methods of making money today are through affiliate promotions - or selling goods and services for a commission, through one's website. Pay-per-click advertising is invested in by companies both big and small, and a webmaster (whose website has relevant content) can greatly reap the rewards as their visitors click these ads, and then follow through with a registration or successful purchase (also known as a conversion).
Marketers have learned to use simple hypothesis to remain competitive: such as the SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats), which help the marketer assess their business situation and that of their competitors, and the market's situation in general. The 4 P's of marketing, also known as the Marketing Mix, include Product, Price, Place and Promotion. These four attributes help a marketing professional correctly identify with what their product actually is, the logical market entry price to set for it, where it could and should be sold, and how to get the word out through advertising and other means.
