How To Be A Successful Internet Marketer Using A Mac

Let's face it - it's a PC world out there - but many artists, authors, speakers, coaches, consultants, and a lot of other "creative" types use macs and probably have always used macs. Now you find that you are in the world of internet marketing either directly or using it to promote your business online - and many of the software tools out there which could make our lives easier - are not compatiable with macs.

So my goal for this is lens, is to provide all of you all of the resources of I have come across that have worked really well with my macs - so that you don't have to spend the years I did searching for just the "right" thing. Or actually going out and doing the unthinkable - and buying an additional computer (PC) to use just for marketing purposes. (Yes, I did that. And I'm trying to sell the thing right now on ebay! Big mistake.)

I'm passionate about this because while I wouldn't describe myself as a brand whore, I must admit that I have been dutifully loyal to Apple since about 1989 - and I refuse to let go of a relationship that intense without a fight!

While I use the resources here on a daily basis to build my Article Marketing Consulting Business as well as a few other sites I founded), please keep in mind that this is not the be all and end of all of resources. If you know of some great software, websites, etc. that are not listed on this lens - feel free to add a comment with your resource listed.

Is This Still Relevant Considering Leopard?

The answer is yes.  While the new macintosh operating system "Leopard" does have the capability of allowing you to run windows & windows applications via bootcamp - but wouldn't you really still rather do all your work through Apple's already fabulous operating systems? I know I would.

So without further to do...let's get started.

What's New...

The 411 On Cool New Mac Resources

If you watch TV at all. I know you've seen the commercials featuring iphone, ipod touch, and the colorful ipod nanos.

All these items are very important to internet marketers because of a wonderful thing called podcasting! And nothing makes it more easier to podcast than a mac and itunes. Even my 9 year old can do it. Seriously!

1. Buy a mic or headset with mic
2. Open recording software "Garage Band" on your mac
3. Choose podcasting preferences with no voice effects
4. Record your intro music on first track
5. Record your podcast on next track
6. *optional* Record an outro on third track
7. Export to itunes
8. Reuse intro and outro for additional podcasts

Bammm! Instant podcast. High Quality. Great visibility for your business.

Mac Friendly Resources I Love...

This is a list of resources, tools, software etc. that I use as an online entrepreneur and internet marketer on my macs. This list will continue to grow as I remember all the things that I have used and continue to use. And they are listed here in no particular order.
The Jing Project
Capture screenshots and create screencast videos with this fun and free online tool. Project created by Camtasia creator Techsmith.
MacFriendly
This is a directory site of all sorts of business owners who want the business of mac users. While I think that some of them were just looking for a back-link, the bottom line is if that if they are listed then they have something that works just fine on a mac.
How To Set Up Wordpress On Your Mac Locally
Hey, I didn't even know I could do this until ran across this post by blogger expert Ben Bleikamp. But it came in handy - and not soon enough - after I completely messed up my wordpress blog one day and couldn't even access it again. Using wordpress locally - I can make changes etc., tweak everything, and then go live. Sweet!
ZipIt
Macintosh compression utility.
Open Source Mac
Free open-source software for OS X/mac.
Pimp My Safari
Add ons to make your safari browser work wonders.
MacSanta
This site was developed as a promotion for the Christmas holiday. You could get discounts on a variety of software by independent developers. While the discount is over - it still is a great source of great software. Go take a look.
Sandvox
Use this software by Karelia (Sandvox) to make beautiful websites - easy as pie on your mac! I use it all the time for my own websites as well as for clients. I used it to build my article marketing course website in a flash!
NVU
Build websites and/or squeeze pages with this great FREE edtior. It rivals dreamweaver and frontpage because you don't have to have any html knowledge to use it, but its much easier to set up, use, and publish pages with NVU. I use it for pages and html newsletters.
FreeWare For Mac
Free software for OS X / Mac.
MacRabbit
Build extremely beautiful CSS websites and web pages with this software.
Download.com
Most popular mac software downloads on Download.com.
Taco
Easy to use HTML editor for Mac OS X. Free.
Firefox 2
If you are serious about building an online business, then you should already be using the firefox browser. Although I like the simplicity of safari, nothing rivals all the great SEO addons that firefox has for internet marketers. All other browsers are just not there yet.
Web Graphics Creator
This software is extremely reasonably priced and creates really professional looking graphics for your site. You can design ebook covers, banners, and other 3D images in a snap! They have a version for mac and one for windows. They also have a few other compatible products such as logo creator software. Finally - a company that gets it!

Good lens! Top rating from me. Interesting comments on Firefox SEO plugins. I wouldn't mind seeing a list of your favorites in the future. As far as NVU, I have found that and KompoZer to be similar, but KompoZer is a little less buggy. Both seem to be based on the same engine. However, both are very capable editors. It all comes down to a matter of personal preference. Kind of like Mac vs. PC, but I definitely like Mac better!!!

I'm still trying to save money to buy a Mac and once I do, I'll be ready for Internet Marketing or any kind of marketing because of this wonderful lens of yours! I'm a Mac user, actually, but I'm still settling for the old Mac, the SE Plus and I let my cousin use it for their desktop publishing jobs. So, I'm currently using PC but if I get the chance to buy a Mac (a Mac book), I'll definitely look up your lens again. Thanks for sharing!!!
