A Marpac Sleepmate 980a Mechanical Sound Conditioner for a Better Night Sleep

"This sound screen / white noise maker is the only one on the market that makes a true whooshing sound by means of an actual fan inside a sound chamber. It really makes a soft, soothing noise that is easy to sleep with. All of the others make an electronic hiss that is a little irritating. We got one of these about 20 years ago and loved it so much that we finally wore it out. Unable to find another one, we settled for an electronic version that we never liked as much. I was so glad to find this one on Amazon, and bought 2 of them. My only reservation is that the noise this machine puts out is quite soft; fine for normal background noise, but if you are and extremely light sleeper, or are masking serious traffic or other loud sounds, you might want one that has higher volume options than this one has. "We live in the city. It's amazing how this product masks other noises like barking dogs, the train, sirens, etc. We keep a fan in our window all summer long but when it gets this cool outside, the fan comes out. This is nearly the perfect replacement. It has two speeds and you can make adjustments to the tone of the white noise it produces. The instructions said it would take a week to acclimate to however, I think it took us one day. Both my wife and I sleep better with this sound in the background. No complaints.
