Marryoke (Marry-Oh-kee) involves couples starring in a low budget musical. It's added a new dimension to traditional wedding videos. The novelty productions feature the bride and groom as the lead characters but include the rest of the wedding party as the supporting cast.

Some of the videos may hint at what you've seen on MTV. The couple, their guests, the wedding party and sometimes depending on where the scenes are shot, innocent passers-by get caught up in the professionally-produced production.

The videos vary greatly. Sometimes some of the participants seem to have lost some inhibitions thanks to the availability of drinks. Other times the productions seems meticulously choreographed. Regardless, most of the time they maintain enough personality and sense of the couple and the real people involved to have a sense of charm.

These are not actors. The songs and often the settings, costumes and choreography are at least in part chosen by the couple. If you go by a relatively quick search through Marryoke videos on YouTube, it looks like Perfect Day is one of if not the most popular song for your Marryoke today. You take whatever song you like and fashion it around your big day. There is at least one Marryoke video set to Tom Jones' song, Delilah. Are all of these Marryoke (Marrioke) videos for real? With a few, there are doubts. Regardless they're sometimes fun to watch and look like they may have been pretty fun to make.

As with anything new and trendy (this seems to have really started to gain press in the mid-2000s), people are wary. The wedding karoke tradition certainly goes back way before that. Some disapprove altogether. Some scoff at its being just another bid for a wedding couple's money. Really, it's all about choices and who gets to choose.
