My Favorite Childhood Toys
Ranked #5,168 in Parenting & Kids, #173,538 overall
Stuffed Animals
My first thought was Barbies. After all, my dad did take the time to build me a Barbie house out of a bread rack the grocery store was going to throw away.
After more thought I realized that my true favorite childhood toy was actually toys...in my stuffed animals.
I cherished my stuffed animals. They had tea parties with me, I played doctor and hospital with them, I played house with them.
I enjoyed having their company in my bed to keep me safe at night.
One of my Stories
It was a smallish stuffed alligator. This alligator went everywhere with me where I would be sleeping.
On in to junior high I was in orchestra. We took many overnight trips for orchestra concerts. On one of these trips I managed to somehow leave my poor alligator behind.
My dad was a truckdriver and had to make a run through the town we had stayed in. He stopped at the motel, but to no avail....no one had turned in my poor alligator to the lost and found. :(
To try to make it up my dad came home with a new stuffed animal for me...a gorilla.
This started my collection of apes, gorillas, monkeys, and orangutans. I had quite the collection when as an adult I had to sell my collection when we needed money.

As I find photos from my childhood I will be adding them and updating this lens.

Jasmine's Crocheted Stuffed Pooh Bear
crocheted by her dad and cherished by her
This is the stuffed animal that Jasmine takes with her wherever she is sleeping....and sometimes everywhere she goes!
Her father is in prison and he crocheted this for her and it was her birthday gift 3 years ago.
She really cherishes it. As you can see in the photo, poor old Pooh has had lots of "surgeries" for repair over the past 3 years.

- I never had a Barbie...(my mother didn't believe they were anatomically correct) ;o) ...I had a troll doll with pink hair that I remember the most...and a battery powered car that I drove around in our basement on. :o) Great lens Marsha...thanks for the trip down memory lane...and thanks for visiting my laptop vs desktop lens...I appreciate your comments. I ended up choosing laptop but gave it up cause I "need" a mouse for photoshoping and like my desktop set up better.

- We had a monkey made from brown socks. In the 1950s the toys were often homemade still.
