Why I Love Mars Hill

Mars Hill Church is located in Seattle and I live in Baltimore. I don't personally attend the church, but my life has been deeply impacted by the teaching of Mark Driscoll, one of the pastors of Mars Hill. How is that? Through the wonderful world wide web... namely iTunes (that's where I subscribe to their feeds). I think the sermons found at Mars Hill are so great, I wanted to make a lens to share them with you!

Who They Are and What They Do

Mars Hill seeks to be a church for Jesus in the heart of one of the least churched cities in America. Did you know that in Seattle there are more dogs then children?

The mission of Mars Hill, like Paul's mission in the Book of Acts, is to make Jesus known and proclaim the Unknown God to this generation. And their message is bearing much fruit around the world thanks to the miracle of modern technology (namely the iPod). Millions of people have access to the best of Mars Hill so that we too can be effected by their contagious passions and fall in love with our own cities for the sake of Jesus.

The way Mark preaches is so refreshing in this day and age. I really appreciate how he takes the time to break complex things down to make them not only understandable but also amusing. Take a listen and you'll see what I mean...

Simply put: you've got to hear this man speak and you'll understand what I'm trying to say here. And, Lord willing, it will move you like it's moved so many others.

Books by Mark Driscoll

The Radical Reformission: Reaching Out without Selling Out

Reformation is the continual reforming of the mission of the church to enhance God's command to reach out to others in a way that acknowledges the unique times and locations of daily life. This engaging book blends the integrity of respected theoreticians with the witty and practical insights of a pastor. It calls for a movement of missionaries to seek the lost across the street as well as across the globe.

What The Bloggers Have To Say

People are always talking about what Mark Driscoll has to say, and many times it's not so positive...

He speaks out for things that some people think he should be quiet about. Thus, he's considered "controversial" and receives a lot of flak, usually from members of the blogosphere. And because of that, he just loooooooves bloggers.

I say those of us who are fans need to spread some kind words about such a brave guy--a man who's standing up for Jesus without compromise in a city that could care less about Christ. Are you a fan? Then post something positive today!
