What Did YOU Think When Martha Stewart's Show Moved To The Hallmark Channel?

Where Oh Where Has Martha Stewart's Show Gone?

Martha Stewart moved her television show to the Hallmark Channel on September 13, 2010, in customary Martha Stewart style. It was BIG and it was EXCITING. However, as a long time fan, I must say that I was disappointed. For years, I watched Martha Stewart Living most days, either live or taped. More recently, I will admit that I could not watch her show regularly but I was still a fan and I still loved taking a break occasionally with a cup of tea to see what was happening on her show.

AND THEN SHE MOVED TO THE HALLMARK CHANNEL.

I was even MORE disappointed when I discovered that under the Martha Stewart banner on the Hallmark Channel is a host of new and interesting-sounding shows including Mad Hungry, Martha Bakes, Petkeeping, Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer, Everyday Food and Everyday Baking. And then there are Martha Stewart Presents specials, too like the one on the men who make us laugh, the one on the fashion designers of America and even Martha's holiday open house Christmas special.

But don't let me flavour what YOU think. This page is is supposed to be about what YOU think of Martha's move to the Hallmark Channel and I hope you will take a moment to chime in with your opinion, whether you LOVE the change, HATE it or even if you really simply COULD NOT CARE LESS.

But do YOU receive the Hallmark Channel?

Not receiving the Hallmark Channel is what stands between me and Martha Stewart Living and her other new shows. I am unwilling to spend more money on cable in order to receive that channel and I am actually not sure if I can receive it where I am located in Canada. (I'll have to look into that.)

Wondering Why Martha Moved Her Show?

The New York Times reported that Martha Stewart moved her show because of years of difficulties with syndication. Syndication gives the networks total control over when they air a show and Martha Stewart Living has been aired at widely different times and even sometimes at times at which her fans could not watch. The move to the Hallmark Channel was to allow her show to be slotted in one time (10 a.m.) across the country as well as to develop additional television programs.

Of course, whether or not the move is successful will not be known for awhile. Experts seem to think that Martha and Hallmark are a good match. Hallmark is received in 90 million homes (although not mine) and has spent considerable time and money to come up with a television programming strategy that works. They have had success with reruns like The Golden Girls and with their more recent emphasis on new movies.

The New York Times also states that Hallmark has struggled with ratings and sumises that Martha Stewart programming will "make Hallmark more relevant. It's no longer the Little House rerun channel. It's the Martha channel." Ah, perhaps the move begins to make sense...

Do you think Martha Stewart should have moved her show to the Hallmark Channel?

HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR SAY

I have to say that I am disappointed more because I do NOT receive the Hallmark Channel than I am about the actual move itself. And the more I research I did for this page, the more it looks like it may have been a BRILLIANT move on the part of both companies -- Martha Stewart's and Hallmark's.

Martha makes the Hallmark Channel current and lively so now I think the ONLY solution is for the Hallmark Channel to go mainstream. If we all received it, I bet anyone who enjoys either products -- Martha's shows or Hallmark movies (and even the Golden Girls) -- would love it.

Martha Stewart is a pretty shrewd businesswoman, so I'm assuming it was a good move for her at least!

:) I did not even know Martha Stewart had a show. Guess I don't watch enough television! :)

Feeling highly too incompetent to second guess Martha's business decisions, but I do think she left a lot of fans behind.

    Honestly, I've never seen it!

I really do like Martha's show, but we lost it here a long time ago when the syndicated version moved from one local station to another that we did not receive at the time. We receive it now, but of course it no longer matters. Since I hadn't been able to develop the Martha Stewart watching habit, I didn't even realize she had moved this time. I do understand your disappointment, though. In my case, though I rarely watch Oprah now I do watch occasionally, but when this season ends and she's just on her OWN network, I won't get to watch her at all. Such a shame. Wish there were more over-the-air channels so everyone could see these really good shows!
