There are many items that you going to need to started but there are several item you don't need right away. Please be careful to buy martial art clothes items or you will overspend and buy unnecessary items. Here I give some guides to buy a martial art clothes based on my experience.

Martial art style

Each martial art styles has their own clothing and function. The Gi belt itself not just show your rank but also designed to help you in battle.

Karate
I have been learning this martial art for about 6 years. Usually I buy the uniform with these characteristic. The uniform has to be made from cotton because it help me to absorb the sweat during long session training. I like smooth jacket but also durable to last long and comfortable. I also recommended you buy strong cotton trousers with a drawstring because if you buy an elastic band, it may exert much pressure and break during bouts. The pants it self need to be strong. Well I have a bad experience about karate pants.

Judo jackets are normally made of stronger materials such as cotton. Often, the jacket is used as a weapon by pulling it to throw the opponent off balance. Full length pants, You should buy pants that only reach just above the ankle. The reason is you can get a good foot movement..

Taekwondo
Like karate uniform, taekwondo jacket has to be comfortable and durable but I suggest you buy a medium thickness cotton gi. In taekwondo the kick is very important so try to find loose enough pants in order you can perform spinning kicks like a roundhouse and it must have a good durable because you will perform multiple kicks.

The size

No matter what you use martial art classes, the adaptation is the most important. Clothes should not restrict movement in any way. Martial Arts clothing is both comfortable and durable. Try it, you have a full range of motion before you buy. Too tight or too long and will not succeed in training or sparring.
