What Is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a collection of the best and most practical techniques from other fighting disciplines. Krav Maga is MMA (mixed martial arts). It is not a question of choosing one style over another -- Karate or Judo, Boxing or Aikido, but of taking the best each has to offer. * " You may find you might have to unlearn elements of of skills previously taught so as to not telegraph your moves."But What is Krav Maga? Krav Maga is a " no holds barred " discipline of fighting, emphasizing real-life combat situations, rather than the more formal, choreographed moves of many Asian martial arts that are known as katas. * " Katas are designed as simulated combat sequences, It wasn't until much further in my training did I become aware of that fact." It was designed for the street and for the soldier/commando. From its beginnings in the Haganah (the early Israel Defense Forces), Krav Maga distanced itself from sport fighting, focusing on practical fighting skills the typical soldier or street fighter would encounter. And since Israel is in a constant state of war with its neighbors, the techniques and tactics developed in Krav Maga are constantly being tested - not in theory, but on the battlefields of the Middle East.
Aggressiveness is a crucial element in Krav Maga. Aggressiveness means you will not back down from a situation. According to Krav Maga theory, the aggressive behavior is a display of confidence and acts as a deterrent against violence. Therefore, following the logic, displaying aggressiveness will diffuse the situation because your attacker will want to avoid getting in a fight with a stronger opponent, while lack of aggression will be interpreted as weakness, and will invite attack.
Fighting in the streets is completely unpredictable. There are no rules. There are no referees to stop a fight. Anything can happen. The attacker might pull a gun, or a knife, or have friends that decide to swarm you.
