Martial Arts Tips for Self Defense
In today's world it's probably not a bad idea to know what to do in the event that you are confronted by someone who unfotunately wishes to harm you or your loved ones. Violent crime is rising in many parts of the country. In fact, it is up throughout the country by more than 500% over the past 20 years. And chances are that many more incidents of violent attacks go unreported,... and some of those are happening every day within a short distance from where you live.
For this reason I offer you the following tips. But hope you never have to use them:
Know your opponent's vital targets and focal nerve centers:
With the proper force and direction you can cause temporary paralysis in your attacker. (Yes really!) Allowing you just enough time to escape or render another more serious blow to completely put them down. Such places as the armpit, the ankle and wrist bones, the tendon running downward from the ear, the Adam's apple etc. are just a handful of the same targets used in our military's combat training. Using the right part of your body to strike any one of these targets (or in some cases a simple squeeze) can cause your attacker to bend and fold,... temporarily incapacitating them.
I found this and some other martial arts self defense techniques
inside the Ultimate Karate Bible.

Probably the most difficult thing to conceive if (God forbid) you ever find yourself under attack, is not a physical feat, but a mental one... remain calm. However difficult it might seem, it is possible. And can, quite frankly, save your life,... allowing you to think you're way out of the situation... deciding which blow or strike to render to your attacker, and to what part of the body... or when to push away your attacker and run.
A quote from Bruce Lee (The Bruce Lee TRAINING SECRET)... "No matter what you want to do, don't be nervous (you should not let your muscles nor your mind be effected by nerves). Just keep calm. No illusion and no imagination, but to apprehend the actual situation you are in and find a way to deal with it. No excessive action is needed. Just keep your body and mind relaxed to deal with the outside emergency." - This was an essential focus in the Bruce Lee workouts as per his teacher, Grandmaster William Cheung, who introduce him to Wing Chun Kung Fu.
