Martina Gedeck Bio

Born in Munich, Germany in 1961, Martina Gedeck found herself attracted to the theater at a young age, performing in various plays and productions while still in high school. While still in her teens, Gedeck traveled to the United States to study for a year, after which she enrolled in the prestigious Berlin University of the Arts to hone her craft.
While in drama school Gedeck's talents stood out and she began receiving acting work while still enrolled at Berlin University. Martina won her first individual honor, a Bavarian TV Award, in 1995, and in 1997 she captured her first major film award for Best Supporting Actress, in the German-made Rossini and Life is all you get.
With her fluency in four languages; German, English, French, and Italian, Martina has been able to show off her considerable acting talents in a very wide range of film genres. Gedeck has been nominated for two Academy Awards, both in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. She won the award in 2007 for The Lives of Others, and was nominated in 2009 for The Baader Meinhof Complex. Overall Gedeck has won 25 major film and television awards to date, with more sure to come.
Today, the single Martina Gedneck resides in Berlin. In addition to her acting, Martina is involved in politics-namely the Green Party, and served on an assembly to elect the new president of Germany, Christian Wulff in 2010.
