Mary Kay Cosmetics is a 45 year old business which was founded by Mary Kay Ash. Over a twenty-five year career, she trained many male colleagues in sales only to have them promoted over her -- because they were the breadwinners. At the time, Mary Kay was raising three children as a single mother!
The dream for her own business evolved from her desire to give women a chance to take a business as far as they wanted and were willing to work towards. Her motto was "God first, family second, and business third." The business model she developed never wavered in keeping with these values.
Today, her company is still thriving and still family-owned and operated. The Mary Kay Ash Foundation has raised millions to help battered women, as well as sponsor research for women's health. The family maintains Mary Kay's legacy and every day thousands of women join in the opportunity and begin learning "The Mary Kay Way."
The Mary Kay Business Opportunity
Mary Kay was one of the originators of the "three foot rule." She taught her sales force that whenever they found themselves within three feet of another woman, they were looking at an opportunity for a sale.
This principle is still taught. But today's Beauty Consultant has a tougher go at using this technique as the sole way to build her (or his!) Mary Kay business. As thousands of mlms have come and gone, the industry itself has developed a bad name. The homey "warm chatter" is not as effective with busy women who don't have time to stop and chat at the grocery store.
Even more difficult is the challenge of recruiting team members who will earnestly build their business. The average Mary Kay Beauty Consultant lasts about three months, which is pretty much the same across the industry.
Does this mean that being a consultant for Mary Kay is not a viable way to make a living? No. However, like so many other mlms, the training provided for beauty consultants is not adequate.
Renegade University and Attraction Marketing
Fortunately, Renegade University not only offers free training on building your Mary Kay business, but it also teaches ways to market your Mary Kay business at little to no cost.
How Does Attraction Marketing and Renegade University Help Your Mary Kay Business?
1. First, you need a way to let people know you have a Mary Kay business! Using attraction marketing helps you reach hundreds of thousands of people.
2. The Mary Kay personal website available to consultants is, in my opinion, one of the better ones. However, it is only good for existing customers. It can take eight months or more to get a single referral from the main site to your personal site. Attraction marketing helps the people who are looking for your product or opportunity to find you. From there you can direct them to your company site.
3. Mary Kay has an "adoption program" for team members that are not in the same geographical location as their sponsor. This allows them to be taken under the wing of a local Director and training. It is vitally important, however, that you are in touch with your own team. Odds are they will not be receiving any marketing training which they will need desperately to make a success of their business. Renegade University provides training for you and your team so that you can grow together as a unit.
4. Many people starting new home business ventures are baby boomers and computer-challenged. The step-by-step visual training at Renegade University is designed to take even those who know little more than how to turn their computer on through the tutorials and on to success.
5. Attraction marketing will help people who are already looking into starting a home business to find out about you and your leadership style. People are on the internet "sponsor shopping." They may know they want to start a business, but are looking for the person to be their sponsor. Compared to the people who sign up on impulse, without really knowing what they are getting into, you will be generating leads for real business builders. Your team building efforts are more effective and time-leveraged.
6. It is a lot easier on everyone involved when you are dealing with people who want to hear about your business. At the same time, you will have proven that they don't have to deal with one of the biggest reasons people do not want to become involved with an mlm: hounding strangers and family. By attracting them to come to you, you will have already proven they can use the same techniques to attract their own prospects!
Do It! Learn It! Teach It!
Mary Kay is a strong business and an excellent opportunity for those looking to build a business.
Attraction marketing will bring you the prospects you need for your sales and recruiting.
Renegade University will show you how to use the internet to generate those leads without spending a ton of cash.

Thanks, Theresa. Just one of my businesses - multiple streams of income you know, as per the Renegade Network Marketing way of life. Actually have three MLMs, the affiliates, as well as the consulting service. Lovin' every second. The best part is all of my downlines benefit from the same training resources, so I'm not going crazy trying to keep up with different teams! Posted May 18, 2008 |
