The Mary Tyler Moore Show
The Mary Tyler Moore show ran for seven years on CBS and was one of the most popular and acclaimed sitcoms of the seventies.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show inspired the "spin-off" of three other series. They were, "Rhoda (1974)" and "Lou Grant (1977)" and Phyllis.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show first aired in September of 1970 and was a breakthrough of sorts with women's liberation. The show centered around Mary Richards, who moved to Minneapolis after a breakup with her fiancé and got a job as associate producer at a TV station, WJM-TV.
The shows first episode features Mary Richards starting a new life after breaking up with the man she'd been dating for four years. The theme revolved around her relationships with friends, neighbors and co-workers.
Remember the landlady and friend of Mary Richards? That's right, Phyllis is another spin-off of the Mary Tyler Moore show. Following in the steps of "Rhoda", Phyllis leaves Minneapolis after the death of her husband Lars and heads for San Francisco and the home of Lars' parents. Her daughter Bess (also originally featured on the Mary Tyler Moore show) is in tow, as well as her odd ideas about parenting and life in general. If you liked the character on the original show, you'll love the more in-depth look at what makes Phyllis the loveable yet naive person she is.
