Who is Mary Blair

My Favorite Disney Artist!

I have been a huge fan of Mary Blair's work for many years. It started with the It's A Small World attraction in Walt Disney World, which was based on Mary's design for Pepsico's 1964 World's Fair attraction. Over time, I have discovered her influence in other projects, such as animated features, murals, and book illustrations. Her whimsical styling and unique use of color always bring a smile to my face.

What follows is information I have found on the Internet relating to Mary Blair and her art. I hope you enjoy learning about a true Disney Legend!

Big Controversy With Small World!

Hard to believe, but a controversy has been brewing with the Anaheim version of Mary Blair's beloved attraction, "It's A Small World." First a rumor started by Al Lutz at MiceAge.com, then a pointed letter from Mary's son Kevin L. Blair, and then a reply from The Walt Disney Company's own Marty Sklar. Check out the dramatic details at my It's A Small World lens.

A Book Recommendation: The Art and Flair of Mary Blair by John Canemaker

John Canemaker has done a wonderful job detailing Mary's life and career, and presenting an interesting selection of Mary's work. (I have to admit, I haven't read much of the biographical information in this book. But I do love flipping through it, looking at all the pictures!)
