Locating Unclaimed Funds in MD
The Comptroller's Office tries to locate the rightful owners of stocks, bonds, savings accounts, security deposits, contents of safe deposit boxes, insurance proceeds and other valuables which are reported to us as unclaimed by banks and other financial institutions after three years. Real property is not included.
The Comptroller goes on to say:
The owners or their legitimate heirs can claim the funds at any time. There is no statute of limitations.

ALMOST 800,000 NAMES ON MD UNCLAIMED PROPERTY LIST
According to Peter Franchot, State Comptoller, 775,000 individuals are owed $778 million worth of Maryland unclaimed property. "We have returned checks for over $200,000 to people. One instance we returned $800,000, and typically none of the people receiving this money knows where it comes from."
