She was also known as "Little Mary" and "The girl with the curls."
Mary's birth name was Gladys Louise Smith.
She was born on April 8, 1892 in Toronto, Canada and she died on May 29, 1979 in Santa Monica, California.
She got her break in acting when she was seven years old in a part at Toronto's Princess Theatre. The Play was called "The Silver King." During this time her name was changed.
Later she worked for the Biograph Company with director D.W. Griffith. In 1909 she appeared in 51 films.
