A capella tune X takes backing track tune Y on a date...
Originally a music mashup is when the vocals from one song are laid over the music of a second song to create a mashed up version that's both but neither. If a good job is done, it enhances the original music. As people play with mashups, the number of songs mashed together continues to be an experiment. And there's an ongoing debate over whether making mashups is fair use or a copyright violation.

- love love love mashups! like the poll says-take songs i've never heard before, or most likely would never hear, and mashup with something i know, and WAMMO! i consider this an artform unto itself. onward and upward i say!
