Repurpose New or Vintage Canning Jars
My mom collects old canning jars and displays them on shelves above the sink in her kitchen. Here are other ways to show off or make useful those vintage jars.
For some of the craft projects below, you'll want to use newer canning jars instead of making permanent alterations to an antique jar.

Things to Store in Mason Jars
for a decorative display
-
1Collect marbles and store them in an old canning jar.

2Save buttons from old clothing. Someday you will need one. Show them off in a mason jar. If you have enough buttons (and enough jars) sort them by colors.

2Store string in a Mason jar with a hole in the lid. Just pull out the length of string you need and cut it off. Leave a little of the string extended through the hole for the next time you need some.
Decorative Things to Do with a Mason Jar
-
1Fill it with colored water to display on a windowsill. So pretty with the light shining through it.
-
2Display the vintage jars on a shelf.
- 3Turn a mason jar into a small terrarium to bring a bit of greenery to your desk. These need little care once the plants get settled in and you don't have to worry about watering them. They are self-contained with their own ecosystem.

- I bought a bunch of mason jars from the hardware store. The idea was to use them to seal food. But I never did. So then I decided to make "roasted nuts" and give as gifts. Haven't done that either...I think I needed to read your lens to get me motivated!

- I made "snow globes" from mason jars last Christmas after I saw them advertised for $35 and $50 in one of the housekeeping magazines! I liked mine much better :). I will be back for some of your great ideas....when I find some of that elusive thing called time.
