Laying It Out On The Table

Everyone knows that you can make a living on eBay, but not everyone knows how to do it. My name is Marla Braziel and I'm an eBay PowerSeller. My goal is to help people who are interested in eBay get started selling as quickly and inexpensively as possible. I went from complete eBay noob to PowerSeller in 7 months. Yes, that is possible to do. No one showed me how to use eBay. I taught myself in the beginning. Later on I bought books and read up on what to do and what not to do as far as establishing an on-line business goes.

One thing all of the books I've read about eBay have in common is that they're long winded. Though I love a personal story every now and then, it sucks when you have to shuffle through page after page of fluff to get to the good stuff. We all know how that goes.

2 Ways to Research What to Sell on eBay

One of the most important things involved in establishing your eBay business is deciding what you're going to sell. Once you have something in mind you can take one of two steps. You can find a wholesaler for your item. Or you can do market research to see if your chosen item actually sells.

Both of these steps are equally important. Nothing sucks more than finding a great item that you know a lot about and then not being able to find a wholesaler. But it sucks just as much to find a great item and a wholesaler for it, buy your inventory, and then not be able to see enough of the item to make ends meet. It's probably obvious that taking a financial loss is much more of a bummer than not being able to find a wholesaler for your product at all.

Market research is important no matter what type of business you try to start. Whether you're selling pizza in a brick and mortar store or selling on eBay, if you don't have buyers, you're not going to make money.

So how do you go about researching whether or not the item you want to sell can make you some cash on eBay? The cheapest way to find out is by going to the source. Researching you item on eBay will give you thorough information on the item you're trying to sell. The only cost is your time.

On the other hand, there are a lot of great programs online designed to do all of the work for you. You simply input the keywords for the item you're planning to sell and let the software do the rest. Any good internet research program will provide you will a list of items that have sold, the starting price of the item, average ending price of the item, and the sell through percentage.

The only downside to such programs is that you trade time for money. Most of the programs that do market research for eBay are a bit on the pricey side. However, it's well worth your investment if you don't have the time to put in doing the research yourself. It can also save you tons of money in bad investments.

Finding a profitable market niche is the hardest part of setting up an eBay business. It you do your research before hand, you can save on a lot of the trial and error that most new sellers experience. The more you know, the faster you'll be successful.

Terapeak

The Only Program You'll Ever Need to do eBay Research

This product is well worth mentioning for anyone who wants to save a lot of time and money finding out if the market niche they want to go into is a profitable one. I personally use this program myself, even though I'm already well established on-line.

Terapeak is a great tool for cutting down the time that it takes to research on whether a product is selling on eBay or not. Instead of spending several hours on eBay trying to find out how many of what item is selling at what price, you can find out in a matter of seconds by using Terapeak.

You do a search on Terapeak by typing in the item that you're interested in selling. You can then select the duration of time that you want information on the product. Your options are 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days. When you click on the search button, Terapeak will bring you back the sales results from that time period.

Terapeak provides you with a wealth of information. When you do a search for a product it will tell you the average price that the item was sold at, the start price that most people started the item listing at, the number of listings submitted for the time span that you selected, and the sell through percentage. The sell through percentage is particularly important if you're looking for a market niche to go into.

And if that's not enough information for you, Terapeak will also tell you what day of the week had the highest amount of sales for the item, how long the duration of the auction was set to, most popular listing type, most popular listing category for the item, what time of day the most items were sold at, and if any special promotions were used for the auctions.

Terapeak also provides you with graphs to track information on the specific item that you're looking for. It shows you the highest selling item, as well as all of the listings for that particular item that have closed on eBay.

Terapeak is a truly amazing tool, and I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone who is just starting on eBay. I won't lie, it's a pretty hefty investment to make at $197.95 a year, but it's well worth its weight in gold as a time saving and money saving tool. Look at it this way, it can save you a lot of time researching what to sell and what not to sell, and it can save you a ton of money in bad investments as far as inventory is concerned.

Plus, it even features a Hot Products section that tells you what's selling on eBay right now along with a wealth of other information. If I listed all of the features this program has it would take me all day. If you're interested, you should hop on over to the website and check out their demo videos. Plus, if you have any questions about the product you can leave them in my Guestbook and I'll answer them as soon as I can. I use this product on a regular basis.

As always, words in blue are clickable links that will take you to the product page. It never hurts to look.
