I love Golden Age Dutch Art - and works like these have been an inspiration to painters ever after. England's greatest landscape painter - J.M Turner - acknowledged Golden Age Dutch works as his 'mentors'. The earlier pioneering French painter A. Watteau freely admitted that he "truly learnt to paint only after studying the works of the Dutch."

I love your lens, I've featured it on mine: http://www.squidoo.com/windmill-day-is-fun - not just about windmills, also about windmills (and Cuyp) in Golden Age Dutch art. Thanks for sharing!

One of my favorite memories from our only visit to Europe is of the day that we visited that museum (I can't even begin to spell the name!) in Amsterdam, and actually saw the original Nightwatch - wow!

Coincidence is, I am reading an old Time-Life on Vermeer because I just saw the movie of the girl with the pearl earring. Learning about the Golden Age. The Hals are almost impressionism and the Vermeer's are very casual and not stiff like the other artists. The movie depicts a device he looked through. Read about the genre painters. I have not figured that out, yet.

My family and I once bought an unfortunate puzzle of The Night Watch - virtually impossible to complete since it's nearly all dark pieces! I do love the way the light spotlights the two central figures though.
