Masters In Business Degrees Provide New Opportunities

Math comes naturally to some students and, for others, skills might have to be developed. In instances where students have natural math abilities, they might consider pursuing a business or finance degree. A business or finance degree might otherwise help students establish a math foundation, and students can even choose online course programs to attend school from home for their degree .

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) anticipates that into 2018, employment for workers in finance, management and business careers is to increase by 11 percent. Some of the fastest growing occupations, according to the agency, include financial analysts, actuaries, credit analysts, financial examiners, logisticians, personal financial advisers and accountants and auditors. The Bureau also anticipates that mortgage and consumer loan officers are to enjoy solid job opportunities and that prospects are to be particularly good for commercial loan officers.

Exams And Certifications Can Boost Your Business Degree

Competition in some of these areas, however, is expected by the agency to be keen, with the number of qualified candidates outnumbering the positions available. Toward this end, it might help students working toward business or finance degrees to look beyond the actual degrees. There are, in addition to obtaining a business or finance degree on line, steps that students might take to improve their competitiveness and enhance their marketability.

When it comes to actuaries, the Bureau anticipates some of the best employment opportunities are to be at consulting firms. Students who obtain business and finance degrees and want to become actuaries might consider taking at least two credentialing exams so that they can be more competitive candidates, the agency suggests. Internships might also help enhance job prospects for students with plans to become actuaries.

Certifications That Add To Online MBA Programs

In addition to online business degrees or finance degrees at the master's level, students with sights set on becoming financial analysts might consider earning certifications, such as that of a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA), according to the Bureau. Likewise, accountants and auditors who have professional licenses or certifications might expect to enjoy better employment opportunities, the agency notes. Business and finance-degree holders who become certified public accountants (CPAs), for example, might experience more opportunities than others, information from the Bureau suggests.

Salaries for these different positions vary greatly, which is something that students seeking a business or finance degree specialty might consider. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, professionals in these positions between 2008 and 2009 earned median annual wages of between $54,700 and $84,810. Loan officers and logisticians earned median yearly salaries of $54,700 and $67,960 respectively, which were on the lower end, while financial examiners and actuaries, by comparison, commanded $79,070 and $84,810, information from the agency shows.
