This is a great learning idea to make it easy for kids to understand math. It is typically a hard subject for many students and making it easy to understand helps a lot. Kudos.

A very interesting concept - my son is very math-reluctant so this might be just the thing.

Isn't this just like putting a whole bunch of completed homework in a binder? I find it best to review lesson plans and incorporate past material into your new work.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas! I recently started using math journals with my children after reading about them at www.k-5mathteachingresources.com so seeing these photos gives me even greater motivation to keep going with them.

Thank you! Your clear and concise depiction of notebooking and practical applications in all subjects is a much needed resource! You've even given me a few more subjects to use notebooking in as a guide/record of my children's progress. Well done!

I'm thrilled to chime in here and thank you for helping me figure out the format for transitioning my kids from one math program to another. My oldest has done a little bit of the notebooking this past spring and the guiding "whys" above give me more reason to encourage my younger children to notebook in math study as well. Thank you for sharing your work and your love of learning with us.

Another inspirational math lens! I love the idea of using three ring notebooks and sheet protectors for math journals. They are more versatile than the journals that we have used. Thank you for the suggestion.

Lensrolled to all my math lenses.

You know -the best mathematicians are also great at language. But if a kid were to prefer writing in 'math language' instead of words, I would not discourage that. Just make sure the formula are correct.
  • LilliputStation Mar 27, 2009 @ 3:05 pm | delete
Awsome lens, Jimmie! We've not done any math notebooking (hmm, maybe there's a reason for that, lol!) but we may try some of these ideas out next year. Thanks for all your hard work on this.
