The Goal of the Math-U-See Curriculum

(taken from website)

Math·U·See's goal is to help produce confident problem solvers who enjoy the study of math. The reason we study math is so we can apply what we learn in everyday situations. The students learn their math facts, rules, and formulas, and are able to use this knowledge in real life applications. The study of math is much more than committing a list of facts to memory. It includes memorization, but it also encompasses learning the concepts that are critical to problem solving.

Forum Review from ProTeacher.net
Math U See is a different sort of math program. Many math programs, including Abeka teach in a "spiral" approach, where a concept is introduced over the course of a week. During this week, older concepts are practiced. After this week, the concept comes up in future lessons now and then. After a while, the new concept is built upon, resulting in a full body of math knowledge for whatever grade level....
Old Schoolhouse product review
Math-U-See is loaded with strengths. Mr. Demme provides the tools you need to learn arithmetic yourself so you can give your children an excellent foundation in arithmetic. It is the most sequential, conceptual, understandable, complete, and user-friendly program I've seen thus far.

We love Math-U-See. Thank you for sharing such a great lens. Playing games is a great way to practice and learn math. Using a Hands-On Approach to learning is the best way for children to truly grasp mathematical concepts. I look forward to reading more of your lenses.

My kids are good math students but they both count on their fingers. They are in 2nd and 3rd grade using Abeka. How do I place them in a level to teach them the process of not using their fingers without taking them to Alpha?
