Marlee Matlin

Ranked #7,033 in Culture & Society, #145,592 overall

...land of the free and the home of the brave!!!

Marlee Beth Matlin was born on August 24, 1965, to Don and Libby Matlin; she was their third child. Marlee became deaf at the age of 18 months due to a bout with Roseola Infantum. and yet nothing stopped her!
Marlee is also a spokeswoman for the National Captioning Institute. In 1995 she testified at a Congressional hearing, and helped get a law passed that requires all TV sets 13 inches or larger to be manufactured with built-in chips to provide "Closed Captioning" on their screens; this was a godsend for deaf viewers.

Everybody loves a hero.

People line up for them, cheer them on, scream their names. And years later, they'll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them how to hold on a second longer. I believe there's a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want the most Even our dreams."

The plot follows the story of a deaf female photographer; as she encounters emotional and existential obstacles in her life, going through a divorce and feeling worthless she begins to question her role in life, her relationships with her career and men and what it all means ..

It's about addictions this is a break through movie it opens our minds by helping us see our addictions see how they are formed and how our addictions become our reality which is no reality at all ,she starts to see how her own mind brings on where she finds herself and does not like what she sees.

This movie is part modern day Alice in wonderlad "How far down the rabbit hole do you want to go?" How much can you handle seeing our own human nature ?? Just like Alice in wonderland she was digging deeper and deeper into the hole remember she changes sizes ? and that is the question how far are we willing to dig inside to find real answers like how adddictions are formed and how we all have them and how it forms our destiny

I love Marlee Matlin. She is such a positive and talented person. My grandparents on my Mother's side were both hearing impaired. Since I was an army brat, like you, I didn't get to see them often but I did learn a little sign language. I taught my girlfriend the alphabet in high school and we used to sign behind our boyfriends backs. They were not amused! LOL Thanks for this great lens. Bear hugs, Frankster
