Boston Children Centre
Matopeni, Kenya
Boston Children Centre is a school in Kenya. If you can call it that. It's actually a make-shift building where over a hundred children go to learn, in the worst conditions. The online volunteers of Nabuur.com, a non-profit organization, are trying to raise money to build a new school. This is where you come in. Please help us to do this. Donate to the school. Or vote at http://www.givemeaning.com/project/matopeni to review the project profile and vote. Your vote just means that you think the project is worthwhile, you aren't making any commitment to donate, it only takes a few minutes and it's free.

The situation in Kenya
Politics
After the recent elections, riots took place. There was lots of violence, people were killed. In a country which till then was peaceful and prosperous. I don't have to get into details... we all know the facts.
And yet, I'm sitting here and trying to raise money for a school in a small slum outside Nairobi.
Call me altruistic, call me anything you like. I'd like to believe that in my own way, I can help to make a difference... even if it takes forever.
A great writer, I'm not. Nor am I a rhetoric... a person who has a way with words. Just someone who wishes to do something worthwhile.
If all I can do is help one person, then so be it.
But at least I won't be like those who sit and watch from a distance shaking their heads and saying "what a shame." It's easy to see things that way, and convenient too.
Like the Greek saying states- when your neighbors house catches fire, yours is next. So which would you rather do? Sit and wait till it's too late or put the fire out while it's small?

The school building
The building of the new school is continuing. The walls are up and we've recieved funds for 6 toilets and sinks. Very important! We're anxious to finish since the weather is rainy. Also, the turmoil continues in some areas. Discussion is going on about finding textbooks.
In August, a representative of an organization will visit the school and meet the teachers and children. Based on his impressions, we might have a chance to fund 25 girls education for one year.

- Estelle,
The links to YouTube, where we get to visually see the children and their living conditions, makes one really appreciate the many things we take for granted.
This is truly a good lens and worthy cause.
Keep up your good work of making others aware of the children at Matopeni and their desire to learn.

- Hi Estelle and All!
I really like this lens! It is very informative, very well made. It is a meaningfull way to help the vulnerable children at Matopeni school (Boston Children Center). Do like Estelle, you too! Help Estelle to help the children. Or why don't have a sponsored child? You can have personal contact with your sponsored child trough writting letters. I can tell you there isn't any bigger happiness in the world than saving live of a child!
I will help Estelle with helping children in Matopeni, please do it, you too!
Thanks Estelle!
A very good lens!
Kind regards from Ildikó
