Matt Who? Matt Smith!
Meet Matt Smith (born 28 October, 1982), the young unknown actor chosen to take over the role of Doctor Who from David Tennant. He will be the eleventh actor to star as the lead in the long running hit series, produced in the United Kingdom since 1963.
He will be the youngest actor ever to play the part since Peter Davison, who took on the role at the age of 29 in the early Eighties. Speculation among fans about his ability to play the iconic figure at such a young age has been rife since the announcement was made in early January.
However, the series' producers have stated that: "It was abundantly clear that he had that 'Doctor-ness' about him. You are either the Doctor or you are not," following his audition for the role.

Matt Smith Discusses the Dr. Who Role
Unknown British actor Matt Smith has been chosen to replace David Tennant in Doctor Who. David is stepping down from the role in 2009, and Matt is set to start filming this summer and will make his debut in 2010.
Matthew Robert Smith was born on October 28, 1982, and he grew up in Northampton, England. He attended the Northampton School for Boys, where he wanted to be a footballer. However, after a back injury sidelined him, he joined the National Youth Theatre on the encouragement of his drama teacher. He went on to attend the University of East Anglia, where he studied reading drama and creative writing.
Professionally, Matt Smith has mostly done theater work. After his performance in 'The Master and Margarita' with the National Youth Theatre, he was able to secure an agent and was cast in 'Fresh Kills' opposite Christian Slater. He has also appeared in 'On the Shore of the Wide World', 'History Boys', and 'Swimming with Sharks', among others.
Matt Smith then moved into television. He has appeared on 'The Ruby in the Smoke', 'The Shadow in the North' and 'Party Animals'. He has recently been cast as the eleventh Doctor on the long-running Doctor Who series. The 26-year-old is the youngest to ever play the Doctor. Matt says that he was "flabbergasted" when he was chosen for the role, but is excited at the chance to play the "iconic" part.
Check out the video of Matt Smith below, in which he discusses his reaction to being cast in the role of Doctor Who.

Matt Smith has been cast in the role of the Doctor in the iconic BBC series Doctor Who. Smith will be the 11th Time Lord and will take over from David Tennant who leaves at the end of 2009.
He will be seen in the forthcoming fifth series that will be broadcast in 2010.

Christopher Eccleston's Doctor is wise and funny, cheeky and brave. An alien and a loner, his detached logic gives him a vital edge when the world's in danger. But when it comes to human relationships, he can be found wanting.
That's why he needs Rose. From the moment they meet, the Doctor and Rose understand and complement each other. As they travel together through time, encountering new adversaries, the Doctor shows her things beyond imagination.

Your Who View
At 26, Is Matt Smith Too Young For Dr. Who?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byYes, I'd Prefer An Older Actor
The_Book_Garden says:
I must begetting old as the Doctors are continually getting younger! Bring back the more mature ones like Tom Baker or Jon Pertwee!
Having said that, I do have faith that they have chosen an actor that can bring style and panache as well as skill to the role

No, I Think He's Just Right
Li-Li-ThePinkBookworm says:
I totally think he will be interesting, but I will have to wait and see how he does before I can pass a final judgment. But I like how they are changing the character around, it makes it cool.

Katiyana says:
I think it's kind a neat way of playing it that the older the character gets, the younger he looks. Dorian Gray sort of thing..... After all, the Dear Doctor is close to running out of regenerations, we will need the last one to be able to play the role for a long time because once he's gone - so is The Doctor.

I am afraid to say this is one Scifi series that I don't follow. Thanks for introducing me to it. In my spare time. . .

For me the best Doctor Who will always be Tom Baker, but I still remember the original series with William Hartnell. He was scary enough, especially in black and white. 5***** for a very nice lens.

Can't judge if he's right for the role since I'm one of the few people in the western world who has never seen Dr. Who. I'm sure like all shows, I will catch it sometime (on DVD or something) and be totally hooked; wondering why I didn't watch before....Nice lens.

I believe Matt will play the Doctor superbly. Every Doctor there has ever been has been indisputably The Doctor. (Although Pat Troughton as the second incarnation left me only 90% sure of his Doctorness) Bravo, Matt. As previously noted "You are either the Doctor or you are not".
