For many years this was exactly what I would say to myself when faced with the prospect of buying a pair of sunglasses. I simply couldn't see the point in spending more than $25 bucks on a pair of sunglasses. The fact that people spent $100 or more on a pair of sunglasses perplexed me. Then something happened. Something I never expected.

A friend of mine left their sunglasses at my house and forgot about them. So one day I tried them on. I liked them. As a matter of fact, I liked them a lot. So I started wearing these sunglasses. One day my friend noticed that the glasses were his and asked if this was the case. I copped to it and asked him how much they cost him. He said they were $150! I couldn't believe it, but I had fallen in love with the sunglasses. He offered sto sell them to me for $75, seeing as how they were a year old. I agreed and bought the sunglasses, even though I had said I would never spend more than $25 on a pair of sunglasses.

That was over 8 years ago! That's right; I've had the sunglasses that I spent $75 on for the past 8 years. I still like them, but it's time for a new pair and I realized something. If I amortized the cost of these glasses that I love so much, they actually cost me less than I used to spend on sunglasses! I realized that by spending more money on my sunglasses, coupled with the fact that they performed so well, gave me a reason to take care of them. Not only take care of them, but always remember them as well. Remember the old saying that your mother used to throw in your face? You get what you pay for? As it turns out, Mom was right, imagine that? So the next time you think $100 is a terrible deal on a pair of sunglasses, remember; over time they will actually cost you less than the cheap, crappy ones.

Customer Review- I got my first Maui Jim sunglasses a few weeks ago. Before I purchased them I tried on various other top quality sunglasses. I have to say the clarity, sharpness, contrast and saturation of the Maui Jim lens beats any other lens I have ever looked through. The black lens is not a typical gray look when worn, the colors are still quite vivid even though the brightness is significantly and sufficiently muted. The bronze lens is incredible for driving, offering the same quality as the black lens but with enhanced contrast for driving. I didn't much care for the rose lens, it's not my thing. I've owned Ray Ban, Oakley and Armani, and looked at Revo and Serengeti. Nothing comes close to the Maui's for vision quality.

The only criticism I can level at the Maui Jim is that the anti reflective coating is easy to get fingerprints on. You will need a good optical cloth or dry optical towels together with a good cleaning solution to keep them in optimum condition. You should never wipe the lenses with a regular tissue or cloth. But I am told this is true of many top quality lenses with anti-reflective treatment.

Customer Review- This is the second pair of Titanium Sports for my husband in the last 5 years. His first pair mysteriously disappeared. I guess someone else liked them too.

These glasses are surprisingly lightweight. My husband claims that he cannot feel them on his face. When his first pair disappeared he looked for them for about a month and then decided a replacement was in order. After having the Maui Jim's for 4 years he felt as though he NEEDED another pair. He had gotten too accustomed to having no glare when he drove.

Additionally, Maui Jim has great customer service. With the first pair my husband needed a new screw in one of the arms. He contacted Maui Jim and mailed the glasses to them. They replaced the screw and mailed them back for less than ten dollars. The cost probably didn't cover the shipping since they were insured in both directions. The turnaround time for repair was also fast. I don't remember exactly how long but I do remember my husband commenting on how pleased he was that it took no time at all, and didn't cost hardly anything.

Ladies, if you are looking for a present for your husband I would suggest that you consider these sunglasses. I know they would make a nice present for a man that is hard to buy for. If your husband is anything like mine he will be very happy to receive this item.
