Max and Ruby, My Favorite Easter Bunnies

Celebrating Easter with Max and Ruby
Max and his big sister Ruby are characters invented by Rosemary Wells. Ruby is the big sister. She is determined and sure of herself. She is a bit bossy but obviously cares deeply for her little brother. Max says only a word or two at a time but that one word is all that's needed to get his meaning across.
I first ran across the Max and Ruby stories when I was reading to my oldest, many years ago. They were some of the very, very few board books, written for babies and toddlers that I, as an adult, could stand to read. With only a very few words, Rosemary Wells is able to maintain a plausible plot line. As my children got older, I found that they still loved to listen to the Max and Ruby stories. When they got old enough to begin to read, the simple text was just perfect to use as beginning readers. The Max and Ruby dolls are my choice for Easter Bunnies. They appeal to the youngest children. Their appeal, including that of the Max and Ruby, books lasts through at least first grade.
Max and Ruby are the perfect gifts for Easter because children love them, the stories are endearing and the plot line will entertain children for several years.

One day when my children were very young I discovered these adorable, delightful little board books. It is rare that you can find board books worth reading. Some have pretty pictures. Some are loved by children but not interesting to adults.
These Max and Ruby books are the exception. I love reading these books to children. Toddlers love to hear them. Babies love to chew them. Beginning readers love to read them. These Max and Ruby books are ideal for families with several children and especially homeschoolers who will find that older brothers and sister can read the stories to babies in the family as they learn to read.

When we were ready to start decorating our Easter Eggs last year I started by reading the book Max's Easter Surprise!.
We then talked about all the possible ways we could decorate our eggs, drew several drafts and then began to blow out the eggs. Each year I try to add a new Easter Story to our collection. This book has been a favorite ever since.
Inspired by Max and Ruby, my children painted dozens of brightly decorated eggs.

From Publishers Weekly
Irresistible Max is back this time starring in a springtime book full of Easter surprises.
When Max finds a chocolate chicken in the birdbath, big sister Ruby decides to organize an Easter egg hunt. Whoever finds the most eggs will get to eat Max's chocolate chicken, she says. Max tries to play Ruby's game, but like most toddlers, is easily distracted.

- My little sister loved the Max and Ruby stories. I used to read them to her over and over. She liked them so much that I made her some Max and Ruby dolls. She used to read the Max and Ruby stories to her Max and Ruby dolls. I think that that's how she started to read so early.
