Throw A Great Party For Your Toddler

Max and Ruby is my 3-year-old's absolute favorite book and television series. She's obsessed with them. Of course, that's the kind of birthday party she wanted. The problem is, there are no licensed Max and Ruby party supplies available so we had to get a bit creative. Here are some of the tricks we found to pull it off in style...Bunny Style!!

Gifts for the Birthday Girl or Boy

Items ordered from KimmyShop Online - she loved the backpack and the Ruby dress-up doll.

Angel Surprise Cake With Raspberry Fluff Icing

Yum!!

Shopping List:
1 Pre-made, plain Angel Food Cake
3 Pints fresh raspberries
2 Pints fresh blueberries
2 Pints heavy whipping cream
Candy Sprinkles
1/4 cup powdered sugar

This was the easiest and least expensive way to make it (the pre-made angel food cakes were less than the mixes to make them). Frozen berries can be substituted, I did fresh since they were on sale (yay!).

Step 1: Slice the top 1/3 of the angel food cake off with a serrated knife and gently hollow out the inside of the bottom part.

Step 2: Fill the hollowed-out part with 2 pints of the raspberries and almost all of the blueberries. Put the top back on the cake and fill the hole in the center with the remainder of the blueberries and half a pint of the raspberries.

Step 3: In a blender, add the remainder of the raspberries and 4 tablespoons of heavy cream and blend until smooth. Set aside.

Step 4: Whip the rest of the cream until thick. Add powdered sugar and the raspberry puree mixture and mix well.

Step 5: Frost the cake using the raspberry "fluff" whipped cream mixture and then add sprinkles.

A Colorful Cleanup

Learning colors with Max and Ruby

Our favorite! "A Colorful Cleanup" is a board book with a compartment in back holding a set of large, heavy-duty, touch and feel cards. We've discovered about a dozen different ways to play with these. Each card corresponds to a different colored toy featured in the book.

Bunny Money
Print out your own Bunny Money on Rosemary Wells' site to put in treat bags or use as name tags, place cards, or other fun things.

Favor Buckets!

I used plastic pail and shovel sets from the dollar store and filled them with little packs of the mini-marshmallows, Max and Ruby bracelets from Ty's Toy Box, wind-up ladybugs, mini packs of play-dough, bunny money, and mini packs of crayons with little coloring books. Try looking on Kimmyshop or Ty's Toybox ( see ads on page - I shop both). The mini-marshmallow bags can usually be found at Super Target or WalMart.

Great idea for the worm cake! My baby is turning 1 and her name is Ruby, so I thought I would do a Max and Ruby tea party theme.

Thanks for all the helpful info. I am having a Max's and Ruby party soon for my 3 year old. Ordered the pinata you recommended. We are playing a bunny ring toss game, there will be colors and max and ruby coloring pages taped to the paper table cloth to color, and play one game I made up: hiding some squirty frogs around the living room and the kids need to find "Max's frogs" and return them to the pond (bathtub)... we even made lilypads to float in the tub out of styrofoam plates/cups. And I plan on making the Max and Ruby cakes, watching the one of the Bunny party shows and for favors, I bought some $4.00 books and a bunny etible necklace and a wind-up toy. I can't wait!
