Maxpedition Review of the Lunada, Remora Gearslinger, Sitka Gearslinger, Verispacks, And More.

Hi, welcome to my review site for the Maxpedition concealed carry bags. I have not found a lot of really good Maxpedition reviews on the web and I am so thoroughly impressed by this product that I wanted to put one out there for those who are trying to get good prices online and actually have not previously handled this equipment.

I recently saw a Maxpedition review done in a magazine called "Custom Combat Handguns". I had been looking for a cool "gear" type backpack or Bug Out Bag that is tactical and that is made to conceal. That review sparked my attention but I didn't really think about it until my brother in law mentioned that he wanted one of these for Christmas. I picked up the Maxpedition Lunada on Amazon (best price I could find) and gave it to him. Thus an obsession was born!

The great thing about the gearslinger series is that they are designed to access the contents of the bag on the go. A backpack is made to put on your back, take it to your destination, and unpack. The Gearslingers allow you easy access without dismounting.

All Maxpedition Hard-Use Gear is made with the following Materials

1. 1000-Denier water and abrasion resistant ballistic Nylon - You wont shred these bags -EVER
2. Triple Polyurethane coated - Shrugs the rain off when you need it.
3. Dupont teflon fabric protection - Dirt and grime clean right off.
4. YKK high strength zippers.
5. Composite nylon thread
6. Internally taped seams
7. Bartacked stitching at stress points. Again, it means that Maxpedition gearslingers are built to last.

The Maxpedition Remora

Maxpedition Review

This Maxpedition Review is of the Remora Gearslinger - The Remora is smallest of the Gearslinger line and is designed for the light traveler that still wants a tactical place to store all the goods. This is a great day bag that can conceal a full size pistol and still have plenty of room for a camera, knife, flashlight, food etc.

The Remora fits comfortably across the back, slung over the shoulder. The shoulder strap is ambidextrous and has PALS webbing so that you can add any of the many attachments that are available for Maxpedition bags.

Pocket Sizes

1.Main compartment: 9" x 7" x 3" front and back divider, internal loop field for CCW, inner organizer pocket
2.Front pocket: 6" x 6" x 1" with divider, keyper, elastic organizer loops
3.Rear pocket: 6" x 8" with internal loop field for CCW, button closure.

$72.00 - $90.00 - I found the cheapest price for this bag on Amazon at $71.93 The manufactures website suggests about 88 bucks as the retail price.

The Maxpedition Lunada

Maxpedition Review

The Maxpedition Lunada Gearslinger is a step up from the Remora but holds a surprising amount of gear for the size. The one thing that I really like about the Lunada Gearslinger is that it has a solid place for just about everything. Like the Remora you can find an internal strap or pocket to put all your necessary belongings in. If there is one thing that I hate is having a bunch of "stuff" sloshing around loosely in pockets. The Maxpedition Lunada has 5 total pockets each having internal organizer loops that are perfect for extra clips, camera assessories, knives, flashlights etc.

Pocket Sizes

1.Main compartment: 12" x 8" x 3" front and back divider, internal loop field for CCW, inner organizer pocket
2.Front upper pocket: 7" x 3" x 1" with divider and elastic organizer loops
3.Front lower pocket: 8" x 7" x 1.5" with divider, elastic organizer loops, key retention,
4.Front slip pocket: 6.5" x 5.5" Great concealed carry spot
5.Rear pocket: 6" x 8" with internal loop field for CCW, button closure.

Pricing

Best Prices On The Maxpedition Lunada Gearslinger
$80.00 - $90.00 - I found the cheapest price for this bag on Amazon at $80.09 The manufactures website suggests about 90 bucks as the retail price.

The Lunada Gearslinger also has a ton of modular webbing on the outside there are channels on the front, both sides and on the ambidextrous shoulder strap.

The Maxpedition Malaga

The Maxpedition Malaga is a step up in size from the Lunada however it is still considered a smaller EDC bag. You can fit quite a bit more gear in the Malaga than the Lunada because of the added inch in height, inch and a half in width and extra inch in the thickness. I would consider the Malaga a normal sized day pack that is great for hiking.

Pocket Sizes
1.Main compartment 13" x 9.5" x 4" slightly tapered towards the top, front and back divider, internal loop field for CCW, inner organizer pocket,
2.Front upper pocket: 9" x 4" x 1" with divider and elastic organizer loops
3.Front lower pocket: 9" x 9" x 1.5" with divider, elastic organizer loops, key retention
4.Front slip pocket: 8" x 8"
5.Rear pocket: 11" x 9" with internal loop field for CCW, button closure

The Maxpedition Sika Gearslinger

Maxpedition Review

A size up from the Lunada, the Maxpedition Sitka is one of my favorite bags for all types of use. If I was to recommend one maxpedition gear slinger this would be it. I like the Maxpedition Sitka because it is big enough to use as a legitimate day pack while hiking or camping and can fit a hydration bladder for those extra hot days. The main compartment is big enough to fit a pair of shoes, pants, shirt and a jacket with no problem. you can also fit a small laptop or ipad with ease. Another feature that I liked about the Sitka is that it has a water bottle holder on the left side of the bag, big plus for me because I am not a fan of using a hydration bladder.

The front pocket is a great place to keep a wallet, keys or other important information. The zipper enclosure on the front pocket has a safety strap to make it much more difficult for someone to pick pocket that compartment.

The handle on the side of the bag is another plus, it makes it really easy to sling the Sitka off your shoulder, grab the handle and position the bag in front of you on your chest. This is great for sitting in a car, bus, etc. It also makes it really easy to access all of the pockets

Pocket Sizes

1.Main compartment: 15" high x 8" wide x 3" thick with internal organization
2. Top front: 4" high x 7.5" wide x 2" thick with internal organization
3.Bottom front: 8" high x 7.5" wide x 2" thick with internal organization
4.Main compartment and hydration compartment can accept CCW accessories
5.Water bottle pocket sized to fit 32oz Nalgene bottle
6.Compatible with 100oz hydration reservoir

The Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger

The Maxpedition Monsoon Gearslinger is the premium large pack in the Gearslinger series. It bridges the design and function gap between the Maxpedition backpacks and Versipacks. It is a super slick design with a tear drop shape full of functionality. At 1600 CU inches of space you can fit a laptop, and all the necessities. This is a great bag for day to day use, for hiking/ camping, school, work, you name it.

The great thing about these gearslingers is that you can access the contents of the bag on the go, without dismounting. The system is designed so that you can get what you need while on the run.

Pockets

1.Dimensions (main compartment) : 18" (High) wide at base to 6" wide at top.
2.Total Capacity : Over 1600 cu. in.

5.Waist Support : Concealable 1.5" waist strap
6.Empty Weight: 2.8 lbs

Maxipedition Verispack

Great Tactical EDC

Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack

Maxpedition is known for producing quality products, and this bag is no exception. This is the bigger brother of their Fatboy, and is good for those who need more space to conceal, carry, or just for everyday use, with a main compartment that is almost 40% larger. If you are looking to use this as a concealed carry bag, the bigger size really comes in handy.

This "man purse" is so much more than that. Other than the large main compartment, it includes 3 zippered accessory pockets, 2 sleeve pockets, and 1 drawstring pocket that can hold up to a 32 ounce water bottle. Made from light-weight ballistic nylon and coated with Teflon fabric protector, this is an incredibly durable bag.

Personally, I use this as an EDC (Every Day Carry) bag, and it is definitely large enough to fit everything I need, including my camera and my Ruger Sr9c, with an extra mag. The other things I fit in there are too numerous to list. It can be used for anything, though. I have a friend who loves the Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack, but instead of a bug-Out bag or an EDC, he uses it as a diaper bag, complete with bottles, diapers, crackers, water bottles for him, toys, and more. You will be amazed at how much you can fit in this thing.

I've had my Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack for over a year, and it looks almost as good as new. Although the bag is slightly heavy, at almost 2 pounds, it is still comfortable for longer walks or hikes. If you want a bag that is big enough for every purpose, and is really well put together, this bag is definitely what you are looking for.

Maxpedition Mongo Verispack

The Maxpedition Mongo Versipack is huge compared to its
predecessors the Fatboy and the Jumbo. While this bag can be used as a tactical or bug-out bag, it is so large that it really functions better as an everyday carry bag. It has many of the same excellent features that the Jumbo sported, but they have just gotten larger. Of course, it is still a great concealed carry bag.

The main compartment is 12" long x 4" wide x 9.5" deep, which makes it easily large enough to fit any tablet, or even a small laptop. This is the first Versipack to allow for this. The heavy nylon fabric is coated as usual with Teflon, which makes it really easy to clean. This heavier nylon is the same material they used on earlier bags, and should last almost forever. The CCW compartment is definitely large enough to handle almost all full-sized sidearms. Amazingly, two smaller pistols can fit in this compartment, which is great when using this bag to take to the firing range. An improvement over the Jumbo, the CCW compartment has a double-pull zipper, which makes it possible to draw your weapon using two hands. This is not possible with the Jumbo. As with all of their bags, the Maxpedition Mongo Versipack is ergonomically designed to be comfortable when carrying it for longer distances.

This bag has room for everything that you could need to carry in an EDC bag and more. There are so many other uses for this bag than just tactical or CCW. It can also easily be customized by adding various items such as the Velcro CCW holster. If you're looking for one of the most well designed and durable bags on the market, look no further than the Maxpedition Mongo Versipack. Whether you need an EDC, a BOB, or just a camera bag, this one has the functionality and features to handle it.

That picture of the Sitka with the axe is my picture and I don't recall anyone asking me if they could use it. The person that it is strapped to is me. If you want to review something it might be an idea to take your own photographs. Just a thought.

Maxpedition is seriously tough stuff. I EDC a Remora, and find it to be perfect for going minimalistic on an urban (summer) weekend get-away.

The CCW holster Velcros to the inside loop fields that come standard inside the CCW pockets of Maxpedition gearslingers. The Maxpedition PDA holder is also another nice to have. My latest Maxpedition bag is the Sitka and although it has a lot of great spots to hold your cellphone, the PDA holder is extremely convenient and will strap onto your Maxpedition PALS webbing. I have mine right on the shoulder strap so that I can feel the phone vibrate and can easily and quickly access my phone.. Another must have!
