The basic storyline is common to many myths, legends, and science fiction stories: the battle between good and evil. The Bakugan are battle monsters from a parallel universe. The Bakugan Brawlers have "attributes" which correspond to an element: wind, ventus; water, aquos; fire, pyrus; and earth, subterra. Plus the qualities of light, heos and dark, darkus. They interact with each other, and now fight each other because of an imbalance in the energetic cores of their dimension, Vestroia. A pyrus (fire element)attribute warrior started this trans-universal conflict.

The Bakugan Battle Monsters are massive robot like creatures. Yet their forms resemble those of mythic creatures, such as a dragon (Drago, Maxus Dragonoid). There is continual innovation and variety in the creation of Bakugan creatures.

The young hero, Dan and the other children's battles with Bakugan take on a larger than life quality. For example, a challenge from an obvious bully takes on inter-dimensional significance.

The Bakugan exist, at least in this universe, as spheres. When Drago, akin to Bakugan 7 in 1 Maxus Dragonoid the ally of the hero Dan, is tossed onto a metal card, he "stands" upon command and reveals himself. In the toy/game version, the spring loaded marble rolled onto a metal card, pops open and reveals himself. These metal cards, represent a portal to the other universe. This "reveal" boosts the excitement level.

The fundamental strength of these fearsome warriors is expressed in number of Gs. In battle, on a metal card, the warrior with the higher G-power wins. A successful player knows how to alter this fundamental difference in power. By cleverly using Bakugan Traps, gives the player the winning edge.

Traps alter a warriors strength by changing the Bakugan Warrior's attribute, or by adding Gs. Traps aren't tossed; they are placed on the metal cards. They aren't spheres. The object of the game is to acquire all the metal cards of your opponents.
