1956: The first Eurovision Song Contest is held in Switzerland. The contest is Switzerlands Lys Assia singing a song called "Refrain"
1958: The President of France, Charles de Gaulle, issues an ultimatum to striking students and workers. Back me or sack me'. Gaulle's party won a huge majority in the June election

1938 Tommy Chong Canadian-born actor and comedian. He is best known for his involvement in the marijuana-themed Cheech & Chong comedy movies. Cheech Marin, was "closer than a wife. The only thing we didn't do was have sex.
1941 Bob Dylan (Robert Allen Zimmerman) American singer and songwriter. His music career spans over 5 decades. His songs "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" became anthems for the civil rights and anti-war movements in the 60s
1960 Kristin Scott Thomas English actress. Gained international stardom as the doomed lover in 1996 film The English Patient. earning a Best Actress Oscar nomination. She was awarded the French Legion of Honor in 2005
