Beautiful Mayan Hammocks

Hammocks have been in use for over a thousand years - initially developed by the Mayan civilization in southern Mexico and Central America.

The perfect gift for Christmas and all year round they have been around for over 1000 years. Modern hammocks come in a wide range of sizes, styles, colors and materials.

The first hammocks were made from fibers of bark taken from the Hammack tree. This quickly changed to sisal fiber, (sisal is an agave plant similar to the aloe vera) because of its strength and flexibility and because they were much easier to weave.
