Initially a location for grand houses for the well heeled, it lattely became known for as the home to many of the world's embassies, and also a thriving commercial district.

Mayfair is home to two fantastic shopping arcades - the Burlington Arcade and the Royal Arcade. These tranquil retail spaces are the epitomy of Mayfair elegance. The Burlington Arcade, connecting Picadilly and Burlington Gardens, is even patrolled by its own private police force who can eject people who don't uphold the high standards.
Royal Arcade was built later and gained its Royal status after it was used by Queen Victoria for her shopping - buying mens shirts and also flowers there.
