Mazatlan in Sinaloa Mexico

Mazatlan is a beautiful sea port at the bottom of the Sea of Cortex, where it meets up with the Pacific Ocean, almost directly east of Cabo San Lucas. Whereas Cabo is on the Baja peninsula, Mazatlan is on the west coast of Mexico's mainland, in the middle of the state of Sinaloa.

Unlike many tourist towns in Mexico, Mazatlan is also a deep sea port, home to many of the shrimp boats in the area. Mazatlan has a population of nearly 400,000 inhabitants, mostly of Mexican and Indian decent.

Places to Eat Cheap in Mazatlan

One of the simpler, more authentic ways to enjoy a Mazatlan vacation is to take a stroll along El Malecon, the city's oceanfront boardwalk. There is always an eclectic mix of local characters, vendors, travelers and entertainers on El Malecon. The little beachfront cafes are hard to beat for quick, inexpensive lunches. The walkway fronts many of Mazatlan's finer hotels, as well as several trendy nightclubs that begin to fill shortly after guests watch the sun dip away into the Pacific.

Another place to visit is Mazatlan Old Town, where the Cathedral is located, and the market is held each day in the mornings.

Debating the Safety of Mazatlan

Is Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico safe to visit as a tourist

Come on, everyone has an opinion, and mine is just as wrong as yours ;)
But seriously, I have been coming to Mazatlan for years, and now live in Mexico, and wonder why the cruise ships haves stopped coming.

Is safety the real reason the cruise ships stopped coming to MAzatlan?

You know it dude. Mexico has shooting in the streets, and nowhere is safe down there!

Come off it! Mazatlan is safer then east LA, NYC or Atlanta. US media loves to make us all fearful, eh?

The media globalizes the problem to all of Mexico, which is not true. Most of Mexico is safe for locals and tourists alike.

Although the cruise ships stopped going to Mazatlan Mexico for vacation, it is not a place I would call dangerous, and feel much safe here than in east LA, or above 120th in NYC.

    I don't view myself as an "Ugly American" and have never had a problem anywhere I have traveled. It is all in one's attitude and how well you are treating the local people, IMHO. I love Mazatlan.

    Mazatlan is as safe as any other beach resort I have visited, including MOST in the Florida!

Best places to eat in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico

Hmmm, how to do this right on a lense, when the real best places to eat are little holes in the wall with no website. I guess I will just have to start a list of places I have eaten I like, that have websites, so many are in hotels or resorts.

Please do not take this as an indication that I do not eat vendor food. It is the BEST!

Although Mazatlan is a city of almost 1/2 million inhabitants, the tourists who visit generally stay in the Zona Dorado, or Gold Coast. It is north of town on Ave. Cameron Sabalo, and one of my favorite drags on a Friday or Saturday night (the Mexican's are wild in their new cars, and it is like main street USA back in the 60's)
