President Barack Obama: The Beginning of History

Now that Barack Obama will be President of the United States of America everyone is saying that it is an historical time. And it is.

What will the history books say? That a black man won the highest office of President in America? Maybe for right now that is enough. But do you think it's enough for Barack Obama in all that he has to face in the next four years. At war with terrorists, protecting our nation from being attacked on our soil, economic crisis that is also part of history and that's just the beginning - do you think Obama would want history books to simply say "and finally a black man was President"?

Will history show that he becomes a great President? Will history really be made when people don't think it's an issue what color the President's skin is?

Do you think it isn't just a little bit prejudiced to say that he is part of an historical moment simply because of the color of his skin? For all of those who voted for him because he is black, yes you are part of history but not free of prejudice. For all of those who voted for him because you believe in the man and his vision of change - you are the ones who are seeing past the black and white of prejudice.

This is the beginning of history and we are all apart of what is yet to happen in the future.

Whether you voted for President Obama or John McCain, or didn't vote at all - we are all part of history.

Women In Politics and Hillary Clinton

I have to give Hillary Clinton some credit in getting me so interested in the 2008 Presidential campaign. After all, Hillary kept calling me at home and even had Bill Clinton and her staffers phone me to let me know that my voice counted. She told me my opinion mattered and as an American, how could I disagree? I wrote more about Hillary calling me - but really that's another story and you can read here: Hillary Clinton Calling

What DOES Hillary Clinton say about Sarah Palin? More about that below! Keep reading lots of good stuff to go.

John McCain and Barack Obama United on 9/11

September 11, 2001 has not been forgotten as all Americans have pledged and Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama scheduled to appear together twice Thursday and agreed to suspend all TV ads critical of each other to commemorate the day terrorists forced four airplanes to crash into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, a field in Shanksville, Pa., and the Pentagon in Washington, killing nearly 3,000 people.

Their respect and devotion to America and Americans is demonstrated by both men and never more important than this day. I salute both men for their honor.

Voting for President of the United States of American

President of the USA is decided once every four years. The candidates who are chosen to run for President get to choose their Vice President. It's like an invite to a party that says B.Y.O.VP. (bring your own VP). You have to announce it before Election Day though so who you choose for your running mate can win or lose you some serious votes.

I know alot of you are political analysts, election day news gurus and campaign managers, but I am just one of the "we the people" and I'm learning as I go.

It's amazing, really, how many political experts there are in America. Some write news articles, books, TV news stations including everyone from local town stations to CNN have political analysts and my favorite, correspondents who are experts because they used to be:

Campaign Managers
Political Advisors
White House Staff
Former FBI Agents
Candidates that ran for any Office in any Town but Lost

Since none of the above have those jobs anymore, I have to wonder if we should be taking their advice? Hmmm.....

My First Thought When McCain Announced Sarah Palin As Running Mate

Sarah Palin for VP? Governor of Alaska? Honestly? I thought "Are you kidding me!". I was leaning towards the always patriotic, straight shooting Republican that I always associated with integrity. But now? Are you kidding, Sarah Who?

I decided that not only will women not like her because hey, she has made it in a male dominated political world to be nominated as VP and she's good looking. Most women really would get an attitude towards her for that accomplishment instead of respect it, probably because it would threaten them somewhat since it isn't them. Hey I'm just saying...women can be a little catty you know!

Lots of women could get past that or are already above that but look at her views on abortion. She's totally Pro Life. I'm totally Pro Choice. Women overall, want the right to choose. Not all, but the majority and most women aren't thinking they want another woman telling them they have to have a baby they don't want.

And Alaska? Really? Nobody identifies with Alaska. The population of Alaska in July, 2005 was estimated at 663,661 people.

How many people live in NYC?
There are more people in New York City (7,895,563) than there are in the states of Alaska, Vermont, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Hampshire, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Hawaii, Delaware, and New Mexico combined. That's alot of voters.

Baltimare, MD has 671,588 and Jacksonville, FL has 805,605 residents. San Jose, TX has 939,899 Americans living in their town. And these are just cities, not even whole states. So who is going to relate to Alaska?

I was talking to my daughter Cindy about it and I told her rather cynically, I didn't think anyone would relate to Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. What does Alaska have anyway, penguins! And my daughter said no. They don't have penguins. Of course they have penguins I said, sheesh. You know icebergs, snow, winter all the time, penguins. And she said NO. Penguins are in Antarctica, not Alaska.

I did what any bright American would do who was so sure of themselves. I googled it. Guess what, no penguins in Alaska. Then I wondered what else I didn't really know, about Alaska and Governor Sarah Palin. So I googled that too.

Some Thoughts While Obama Was Still Senator

McCain and Palin Kicking Obama's Democratic Donkey

John McCain and Sarah Palin kicked some butt at the Republican National Convention. Americans who never heard of Governor Palin and hardly know where Alaska is, well they know now! McCain backers and Democrats for McCain all got a boost of enthusiasm, recognition that they are political contenders for Election Day this year and the Presidential race is hot.

Barack Obama's campaign offering change from President Bush's policies and a young new generation of people who want to prove that government and politics can be more than just the "good old white boys" thought the Democrats were the only ones offering this change.

Now the Republicans and John McCain have introduced Sarah Palin and the young generation who are conservative, aggressive and still think there's more thank Democratic empty promises for our country are taking a closer look at the McCain and Palin ticket.

This is not just another all about McCain, Palin, Obama and Biden story. Think of this mini blog as one of those wonderful Books For Dummies that offer an easy and sometimes amusing way of looking at something that is probably not as complicated as it seems, like Politics.

I have some questions and thoughts, maybe you do too.

How Are The Democrats Dealing With Sarah Palin

Barack Obama and Joe Biden were 8 points ahead in the polls against John McCain until Governor Sarah Palin was announced as the Republican nominee for Vice President and made her speech at the Republican Convention.

It's a dead heat now. The Democrats have noticed and they don't like it. They would like to take a stand against McCain and Palin, but taking a stand is not really what they are good at.

Comments from Joe Biden are pretty much like Obama's voting record. He says he assumes that the first-term Alaska governor is qualified to be second in command of the United States, but has not yet made a decision.

Obama has half criticisms about her and then refuses to discuss it further saying he is not running against her, he is running against McCain.

Some Democrats are taking a "Nobama" attitude and joining the ranks of Citizens For McCain. Democrats for McCain had a 300% jump in hits after the Republican Convention.

Is Obama Bouncing Back?

After the Republican Convention

After the Republicans introduced Sarah Palin at the Convention John McCain boosted significantly in the polls. John McCain was kicking Obama's butt for while there, but how about now?

Is Barack Obama bouncing back? There are hints out there that the economic crisis is overshadowing any other issue facing the candidates and the USA right now.

Will the McCain Palin ticket be able to win voter confidence on economic issues. So far, that's been a weak spot for them.

Will either candidate actually say anything about the economic mess other than hey "It's Time For Change". Duh candidates, we know that, Americans have been trying to tell all of you politicians that!

Since both candidates are US Senators and each equally then had opportunities to "do something" to change things, I don't really buy either one of them finger pointing the other. While McCain is a Republican senator with a Republican President Bush in the White House, it's clear the Democrats have been controlling the Congress for the past couple of years. And since McCain has been openly critical of President Bush throughout the years, not just during his campaign - hey it can't be all his fault!

Keep an eye on the polls and the commercials plaguing your cable tv to find out how much impact the economy will play in favor of one of the candidates.

John McCain on Hillary Clinton

John McCain was on the View this morning and said he would appoint all kinds of people to his administration, including Democrats. Asked if that included Mrs. Clinton, he took the opportunity to pay homage.

"I know that she wants to stay in the Senate, but I will work with Hillary Clinton because I've worked with her in the past, we've traveled together, we have a working relationship that's of mutual respect and frankly, appreciation," he said. As she comes back to the Senate, he said, "she will be one of the most influential and powerful members of the Senate. You got to work together."

Sarah Palin and Joe Biden Agree

Political analysts have to agree that it's unusual for the nominated VP from the Republican party and Vice President nominee from the Democratic party admit to the news they agree. At least on one thing.

They both agree that Hillary Clinton would have been a better pick for Vice President than Joe Biden.

In fact, they probably agree that Hillary would have been a better pick for President of the United States than Barack Obama.
Joe Biden on Hillary Clinton
At a rally in Nashua, N.H., a man in the audience told Biden how glad he was that Obama picked him over Hillary, "not because she's a woman, but because, look at the things she did in the past."

Here is how Biden responded: "Make no mistake about this, Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be Vice President of the United States of America. Let's get that straight. She's a truly close personal friend, she is qualified to be President of the United States of America, she's easily qualified to be Vice President of the United States of America, and quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me. But she's first rate, I mean that sincerely, she's first rate, so let's get that straight."

It sure sounds like Joe Biden is questioning Barack Obama's selection of himself as the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee. It highlights once again the lack of a proper explanation of why Hillary Clinton was not selected by Barack Obama for the number two spot on the ticket.

Of course, the McCain camp was quick to respond: McCain Spokesman Ben Porritt: "Barack Obama's most important decision of this election, and Biden, the candidate he selects, suggests, himself, that he wasn't the right man for the job, and that Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice. Biden certainly has a credible viewpoint on this."
Sarah Palin on Hillary Clinton
Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Friday she thinks Barack Obama regrets not making Hillary Rodham Clinton his running mate.

Palin praised Clinton's "determination, and grit and even grace" during the Democratic primaries, sounding an altogether different note than when she suggested earlier this year that the New York senator was whining about negative press coverage and campaigning in a way that was not advancing the cause of women in politics.

I think he's regretting not picking her now," Palin told ABC News.

Her comment brought a sharp rejoinder from Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, on behalf of the Obama campaign: "Sarah Palin should spare us the phony sentiment and respect. Governor Palin accused Senator Clinton of whining."

Joe Biden and John McCain

The funny thing is, Joe Biden doesn't seem like he thinks much of Barack Obama. His respect seems to lie with John McCain. He has openly supported McCain's integrity, policies and knocked Obama on everything from his lack of experience, inability to make a decision and certainly his view of Iraq.

Can Joe Biden serve as Vice President for a man he doesn't seem to believe in? Will he be the man making the decisions?

If Joe Biden becomes VP, will he call John McCain to help him get America out of trouble?

Sarah Palin and Community Organizers

Contrasting herself with Obama, Palin said, ``I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities.'' - Sarah Palin

So I got to thinking, exactly what is a Community Organizer? Obama is proud of his record as a community organizer in Chicago and lists it high on his political accomplishments.

Community organizing is usually focused on more than just resolving specific issues. Organizing seeks to make the participants that they are empowering all community members, often with the end goal of distributing power equally throughout the community.

Community organizers generally seek to build groups that are democratic in governance, open and accessible to community members, and concerned with the general health of the community rather than a specific interest group.
