MCTech Talk

Technology is interesting, its scary, its innovative and it's fun.  Every day new ideas and technologies are being born into our world.  It seems like a few years ago that ATM's were a brand new technology and now they are an everyday item we all use.  Same with VCR's, DVD Players, Cell phones..Now we have things like Blu Ray DVD, the iPhone, coffee table surface PC's and more! Technology expands as we move towards the future, and it only gets better!

I dedicate this lens to my technological know how.  I have a background as a IT Project Manager and freelance webdesigner.  I know of great resources and tools online and hope to share my thoughts and ideas here...

Tech Items I Recommend

Here you will find various things from around the internet and world of technology which I've found, researched and think are worth checking out..
Lavasoft Ad Aware - Protection from Spyware
Spyware is an unseen predator on many computers today. Spyware can cause your computer to lag and run slow, it can steal your personal info and even crash your computer. To prevent the latest spyware from ruining your computer, I recommend installing 2 anti-spyware programs. These are both free, start with this one LavaSoft.
AVG Anti-Spyware and Anti-Virus
AVG offers both a free Anti-Spyware program as well as a seperate Anti-Virus program. If you don't have alot of extra money, I recommend installing both to protect your computer. Both free and run pretty well. They self-update to keep you protected from the latest threats!
Open Office - Word Processing
Open Office is a free, I repeat free version of a Word processor program. If you can't afford the super-expensive MS Office but want to write letters, make spreadsheets and more, head over and download this for free. It's recommended by the man behind Squidoo as well :)
Version Tracker - find software
Version Tracker is a great search site for any type of software or program you need. Many times you will find freeware, shareware demos and other programs you can install for a trial basis. I particularly have found some very cool free programs there which I use. Bookmark that site and use it to find programs to do what you need!
Anywho.com
Anywho.com is a directory site for people, phone numbers, etc. I don't recommend it for stalking, rather for things like its "reverse lookup" feature. If someone called your cell phone and you didn't know the number, it can help you find out!
Google
I know what you're saying..who doesn't know about Google? The search engine is used by millions and millions daily. But beyond that, Google offers you an account for free. You can sign up for a GMail address, sign up for its Page Creator program to make free webpages (hosted by Google) and use a host of other cool features including Blogger, Adsense, Adwords and Google Analytics..
Squidoo!
If you came to this page and don't have a Squidoo account, why not sign up? It's free and very addictive. People are making Squidoo "lenses" daily about all sorts of topics from pets to politics to aliens! The coolest thing is, you can earn money from your page for yourself or charity..so give it a try, it's free and fun to use!

Ebay & Amazon Tech Items to Check out...

These are some tech recommendations I'll make for people. They can be fun, they can be helpful or educational, or just plain off the wall!

PlayStation Portable (PSP) Core

The PSP isn't just a video game player for your pocket..It packs a number of great features into a somewhat "handheld" device. You can store digital pics, mp3 or other music, convert dvd's to it's memory (with memory stick) and also surf the web wirelessly in certain areas..When you add all those features up, its a no brainer..but add to that that Sony continues adding new updates for it and new features that you can download..a great buy!

Apple 30 GB iPod AAC/MP3 Video Player Black (5.5 Generation)

One of my all time favorite tech gadgets. You have 2 people out there; people who love the iPod and people who don't care for it. I am in category 1 and love my iPods. 30 Gigs lets you store a LOT of music, but get the 80 gb if you want storage for more (such as movies and pics)..a great portable device to keep your music collection handy on!

Amazon Price: $399.99 (as of 10/11/2008)

HTML, XHTML, and CSS, Sixth Edition (Visual Quickstart Guide)

The best way to learn anything is just plain old fashioned reading..We do it everyday online and might even be moving away from books..However, if you want to learn HTML, this is 1 resource worth having. It allows you to learn HTML as well as CSS (which are both very useful in building your own basic web pages). Add in XHTML and you get a great deal in 1 book!

Amazon Price: $23.09 (as of 10/11/2008)

iRobot Roomba Intelligent Floorvac Robotic Vacuum, Red

They say 1 day robots will be taking over our world. By the looks of Roomba, they have started the revolution. They also say, "time is money" and why not save time by having a small round robot do your vacuuming? This is the "entry level" model and anything that saves you from a chore and saves you time is worth your money..

Amazon Price: $175.99 (as of 10/11/2008)

Western Digital WDG1U5000 My Book Essential Edition 500 GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

If you own a computer, that computer is most likely your life. Photos, music, documents, important info. If that computer crashes, you can lose it all..So the best item I can recommend to everyone is this. An external hard drive. This one is by a reputable name and features a 1 touch backup system. A 500 GB storage is more than enough for the average home computer user..Don't let a computer crash lose your info!
