Welcome the Senior Squid Challenge for the week of 2/28/10. This weeks challenge is about Spring, anything to do with or that has a spring, or even something that puts a spring in your step. What is spring? What does it mean to you?

The Spring Season

Crocuses

Spring can be seen as a new beginning. Plants and animals alike awaken from their winter hibernation. Flowers like crocuses, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils erupt through the ground and welcome the season with their brilliant colors. Trees also blossom and begin to exhibit new leaves. The earth seems to be reborn.

The 1st day of Spring is referred to as the vernal equinox and usually occurs around March 20th in the northern hemisphere and September 22nd in the southern hemisphere. South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand celebrate September 1st as their first day of Spring.
