no, no, not the leash! I love the Swedish meatballs the best! It is hard to find a good recipe that does them justice, so thank you for giving them, here.

  • EdwardJames81 Feb 5, 2012 @ 1:44 pm | delete
I love meatballs and used to buy a variety from the local supermarket which were made by Scan and claimed to be "traditional Swedish meatballs". I am unsure how authentic they were but they did taste nice. After a trip to Turkey I got hooked on Turkish meatballs and after buying many kilos of the Turkish meatball spice I ended up making my own meatballs.

There are some great recipes here and I can't wait to try a few out. Thanks for sharing these recipes.

I like meatballs, and, yes, I have tried the Swedish ones at Ikea - very tasty, but actually I like them grilled or fried so that they taste a bit burnt and charcoally, and a bit blackened in colour.
  • JaguarJulie Oct 30, 2010 @ 1:41 pm | delete
Hmmm ... I am now wondering what is the most popular size of meatballs? Does size matter in meatballs? Growing up, I saw a lot of one inchers ... today, I much prefer three inches for a meatball. How about you?
  • Irenemaria Oct 30, 2010 @ 2:30 pm | delete
According to the recipes I collected from all over the world, the most common one is 1,5 inches. The Swedish ones can even be a little smaller than that. However - they are wonderful in alll sizes!
  • pmolinero Oct 30, 2010 @ 3:04 am | delete

Okay, so it sounded pretty gross until I saw it was chocolate meatballs.lol. But, the rest of the different styles of meatballs are right up my gluttonous alley. Fabulous stuff.

Oh, yum. My sons love spaghetti with meatballs. Have to admit that I sometimes cheat big time and buy the ready made Swedish meatballs at the grocery store for them.

Otherwise, I make my own using a variation of my meatloaf recipe, with the onions chopped smaller or put through the food processor.

Meat balls are so good! I once went to a New Years Eve dinner party where all the folks bringing the main dish brought meat balls. Plus, the hostess had meat balls as an appetizer. That was my most favourite dinner party of all time.

    Thanks for the great lens.

    Take care.
