I tried hand held manual breast pumps for a little while after my baby was born. After two or three uses both my hands and my breasts were horribly sore. What can I say? I was cheap!

I believed I was saving myself money, but after several rounds of using a manual breast pump, I was convinced that the army could ditch water torture and just use a cheap breast pump for interrogations instead. The hostages would talk every time.

The Medela Style worked so much faster, and so much better than my old manual pump that I immediately threw the other one away. On average I expressed twice as much milk in half the time. The regular pumping helped to keep my milk production up and kept my breasts from getting sore between feedings. It also allowed other people to feed my daughter whenever they wanted to.

One of the possible hesitations of breast feeding, at least from the family's point of view, is that feeding is such a bonding experience. Unless you pump, then you are the only one who can feed the baby. When you use a quality pump though, your milk production stays pretty constant and your family can all feed your newborn the healthiest food possible - your own breast milk.

This makes things especially nice if you need to pump at work. The whole thing fits into a plain case (It's not marked "Breast Pump" or anything, it's just a normal little black case) and it's is small enough that you can use it in a bathroom if you need to.

As a new mom, being able to successfully breast feed meant the world to me. I'd read about all of the benefits that breastfeeding gives your baby, but I'd also read that it hurt, and I was a little scared of it. The truth is, breastfeeding can be difficult, and painful. However, the clear rewards of breast feeding far outweigh the temporary pain associated with it. The time you spend feeding your baby will create a strong, amazing bond between you. It is perfect, private time with just you and your child.

I wouldn't trade those moments for the world. The best part was, the Medela Advanced made pumping so easy on me that my family got to regularly feed my daughter too, and I got to watch them having those moments with her. It gets my highest recommendation.
