Did You Know...
In a survey of girls 9 and 10 years old, 40% have tried to lose weight, according to an ongoing study funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
In a study on fifth graders, 10 year old girls and boys told researchers they were dissatisfied with their own bodies after watching a music video by Britney Spears or a clip from the TV show "Friends".
A 1996 study found that the amount of time an adolescent watches soaps, movies and music videos is associated with their degree of body dissatisfaction and desire to be thin.
One study reports that at age thirteen, 53% of American girls are "unhappy with their bodies." This grows to 78% by the time girls reach seventeen.

Celebrities & Body Image in the News
- Is it fair to savage Britney's figure? - Yahoo! News
- The consensus is clear: Britney Spears performed like she was sloshing blindfolded through mud at MTV's Video Music Awards. No one disputes that the troubled pop princess royally mangled her much-heralded comeback.

Teens' T-Shirts Make Educators Squirm
Wednesday, September 27, 2006; Page A01
Ashli Walker rifled through a rack of designer T-shirts one recent afternoon, pondering which one she should buy and wear the next day to Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Prince George's County. The big black one that read, "TRUST ME..I'M SINGLE"? Or the snug white T-shirt emblazoned with, "I KNOW WHAT BOYS WANT"?
They're blatantly sexual, occasionally clever and often loaded with double meanings, forcing school administrators and other students to read provocations stripped across the chest, such as "yes, but not with u!," "Your Boyfriend Is a Good Kisser" and "two boys for every girl." Such T-shirts also are emblematic of the kind of sleazy-chic culture some teenagers now inhabit, in which status can be defined by images of sexual promiscuity that previous generations might have considered unhip.dove evolution

You Go...J-Love! Jennifer Love Hewett Fights Back
Jennifer Love Hewitt Responds to Bloggers Who Call her Fat
My husband saw this photo on E-Entertainment this evening. He responded by saying..."Are you kidding me...she isn't fat!""Oh my gosh...I love you soooo much right now", I replied.
Can you believe that the country is actually debating whether or not a size 2 woman is FAT?
I am so proud of Jennifer Hewitt right now. She is one of the few celebrities that has been willing to fight back for us common...*fat* folk.
I couldn't fit my left leg into a size 2 and I've *never* been referred to as fat.
Sheesh.
