The Mediæval Bæbes - Modern Medieval Music
Combining fourteenth century poetry, with its still relevant themes of nature, the life cycle, love and longing, with the talents of twenty-first century women has created its own force of nature - The Mediæval Bæbes.
The Mediæval Bæbes have an undeniable allure. The group currently consists of six talented, beautiful women who give the rich texts of medieval songs and poetry renewed life by setting them to original scores. The group uses medieval and classical instruments, such as the recorder, concertina, hurdy-gurdy, zither, harp, and cittern. They sing in a variety of languages, including Latin, Middle English, French, Italian, Russian, Swedish, Cadenet, Scottish English, German, Manx Gaelic, Spanish, Welsh, Bavarian, Provencal, Irish Gaelic, modern English and the nearly extinct Cornish. The result is a sound so unique and hauntingly etherial, it captures the imagination and devotion of modern audiences. In the last ten years, they have placed three albums into the top of the UK classical charts and performed before enthusiastic audiences in the UK, United States, Canada and Europe.

The daughter of infamous Ruralist artists Graham and Annie Ovenden, Emily Alice grew up in a mock gothic castle in Cornwall and began writing ghost stories at an early age. In 2004 she published the short story Vulpes Vulpes, a dark and seductive tale illustrated by her mother. The Ice Room is her first full length novel and expands upon the magic realism and gothic themes of her previous work.
A talented soprano, Emily is a member of best selling classical act Mediæval Bæbes. As part of this exotic and alluring ensemble, she has travelled extensively throughout the world, singing, dancing and composing. Emily is also the a composer and vocalist in the Cornish classical act Celtic Legend as well as the gothic power metal band PYTHIA.
Emily currently resides in north London, delighting in wantonness, excess and fantasy.

A friend of the Mediæval Bæbes since their formation in 1996, Claire joined in 2005.

Melpomeni joined in November 2006. Named after the muse of tragedy in ancient Greek mythology, Melpomeni studied Musical Composition in Melbourne, Australia and has been a nomad since.

"I have never really wanted to be a pigeon you can fit in just one hole and as a result have always enjoyed working with artists that cross genres. I have found myself studying classical voice at University, in Africa singing zulu chants & gospel, at the ENO and on the Alan Titchmarsh Show singing Opera! In my desire not to be, I found myself well and truly pigeon holed as a sweet singing Irish lass in Riverdance-the show. I have performed at festivals and stadiums throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and the US."

Bev joined in May 2007. Bev Lee Harling is a writer, composer and performer of songs from many different genres, forming a rich tapestry of subject matter.

- Wow, they sure look great in their promo shots. I prefer my medieval music more - medieval - but they've created, as they say at squidoo, a fabulous niche. Your lens looks spectacular. Also, I am blown away by your gorgeous zazzle store. You must have worked on it for ages. I haven't got the knack of it yet at zazzle... there's a lot here to learn. Thanks.
