New Movie Seen

The Namesake

I recently saw the Namesake. It was directed by Mira Nair, director of Monsoon Wedding, and starred a number of great Indian actors. The trailer alone gave me chills. In regards to the movie, it was incredible! Because I'm the son of immigrants, I can relate heavily to the main plot, a family coming to America to start a new life. I particularly liked the interaction between the father, played by Irfan Khan, and the son, played by Kal Penn. They're interaction was so true of the immigrant to americanized child scenario. So, for anyone who likes a top quality story about families, I highly recommend The Namesake.

Music

Rediscovery of Jimi Hendrix

Since I live in the Northwest, I have been way into the indie music scene. You know, Death Cab for Cutie and such. Well, I just recently rediscovered Jimi Hendrix. Actually, I started listening to Hendrix because John Frusciante was heavily influenced by Jimi. In any rate, I had forgotten how incredible of a guitar player he was. He could transform a basic blues riff into something remarkable. I highly recommend taking a listen to Jimi. In particular, Axis Bold of Jimi, Voodoo Child Revisited, and Castles Made of Sand. Great Songs.

John Frusciante - Guitar Hero

Okay I know it's a Bee Gees song, but not too many can play Bee Gees so cool. Frusciante it a class act!
